Comcast growing once again?

Looks like another opportunity for Comcast to grab some more customers.

If Comcast is going to do any grabbing, I think they might make a play for Cablevision, especially if TW doesn't go after them first.

A mismatch made in hell.

Paul needs to get it over with and merge Charter and RCN.

lol if they were to grab cablevision they would pretty much be the only CATV company in CT other then charter(unless charter pawns off the whole three towns they have here).

Auction Block

I'm happy with Charter, but if someone can buy them and give me more internet speed, more channels or a lower price, that's even better.

Lucky

Well, that's 420,000 people with the chance to get a halfway decent ISP. I can only hope I'm lucky enough to be part of that group, or that Charter continues to sell off assets.

Re: Where?

I wish... when I lived there, they couldn't even get the modem to sync up because our signal was so poor. Instead of fixing it, they said we couldn't get HSI. The picture on our TV was snowier than rabbit ears.

Re: I hope it's my city!

I hope its the LA/Long Beach market--we are so far behind the rest of LA in broadband speeds etc, because Charter is ignoring us. They are not making any investments here as they do in St Louis, Wisconsin etc. We are lagging at 3/256 with no upgrades in sight, yet they have given higher speeds to smaller markets.

They are NOT a big city player--LA is one of their few large city markets--and they dont seem to understand what to do with us. So sell us to Time Warner or Cox, please.

Re: I hope it's my city!

What "investments" are you talking about. St. Louis isn't seeing anything you aren't. We're still at 3.0/256 as well. Our upload rate is absolutely horrific compared to everyone using other services. All I keep hearing is Charter doesn't have the resources, which explains the entire selling of assets. It's pathetic.

Re: I hope it's my city!

The "investments" I am talking about are/is the necessary infrastructure for higher speeds. We out here in CA keep hearing that our network cant support higher speeds (though I thought that the CA network was supposed to be one of the better ones--however, posts from the Inland Empire area folks say otherwise). Charter has done nothing to roll out higher speeds here.

I thought St Louis had 5MB--at least some areas do?

I have SBC DSL here at work and have a 360-plus upload on their *basic* service. Charter's upload is just crap. All around me are suburbs with Cox and Time Warner and even the lowly Adelphia--all have higher speeds than I. As a graphic designer who works from home at times, I am tired of taking *forever* to upload large files to an ftp server

Re: I hope it's my city!

I phoned them once about their 5 meg service and they told me it would increase my rate at that time from 39.95 to 59.95, so I told them to shove it. Then when their rep came to my door offering to lower my rates and I asked him about it he told me it was only for business accounts? So I am not sure how or where they have it but I am sure I wont pay 60 bucks a month for it.

I live in the St. Louis Metro East (Illinois) and have 3000/256 internet through Charter along with one of their most basic cable packages (around 80 channels) and they just lowered my monthly bill from 39.99(plus taxes) per month to 17.08(including taxes) per month for switching to electronic billing and signing a one year contract? They told me it was a limited promotion for the entire St. Louis area. Seems there has to be more to it than that? Charter sucks, but for 17 dollars per month including the television channels I am suddenly content with them.

Who's the other 10%? Who's Chater?

Charter has been great for me for 5 years! Could do with more speed, sure, but my connection is rock solid as advertised.

My experience with Charter has been the same for over five years as well. I have had very good luck with charter but I would really like better speed (at a price that is cost effective).

Re: I hope it's my city!

I've been with Charter for six years. So far the service has remained solid. They also lowered my bill $15/month and I got more channels. Can't complain yet.:)

Yes charter's speeds suck, but at least they don't block any ports or impose any caps.

What! They do block ports in wisconsin and for all I have been told they do every place else.

Lets see »Charter Pipeline Forum FAQ »Does Charter Block Ports

And my max speed is still 3/256.
