Adult Swim offers broadband treats
Cartoon Network's late-night cartoon lineup - Adult Swim - has surpassed "cult hit" constraints and is teetering into "smashingly popular" territory (at least in the sub-35 market). In order to deliver fans their "Robot Chicken" and "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" fix, the network has decided to start offering episodes to broadband users on-line, starting September 16. Each week between 11 p.m.-6 a.m., the program's website will offer up current and fan-requested titles for download.

Awesome.

Although I did put a TV tuner card into my last open PCI slot so I could record ATHF and Harvey Birdman. Still, at least they are offering a legal way to download and view their shows, even though almost every show they air ends up as a torrent.

What's illegal about capturing their shows to your computer?

Nothing, that is why I installed it. But I am not the only person who has a tuner card and recorded the shows.

You mean more than the 5 episodes they keep showing over and over?

Then again, same can be said for Furi-Kuri (though they only seemed to show 3 rotations of that show).

More like..
1 Pilot Episode
13 Regular Episodes
And The Christmas Special

I've got most of them and am waiting on the DVD to release hopefully around Christmas..

And from what I hear, there is another season in the making.

Re: Venture Brothers

New Season was confirmed a while ago. Look for it in the spring.

If you havent seen Vbros yet, you have to find the torrents and watch them. Brilliant writing.

Re: Wrong idea

Crap. I kind of figured as such when I hadn't seen it on for such a long time, but until you know for sure, you always hold out hope.

It was such a fun show - always poking fun at other shows and anime and games. Maybe cartoon network will at least come out with it on DVD, but sounds pretty slim.

Would be great to get the torrents of the episodes, I never did see the pilot.

Re: Freaking

Mobnuke,

I did the same thing. I have a machine in my bedroom that records all of Adult Swim. I have another machine in the computer room hooked up to the TV so I can actually watch them.

This is good news. Now that I have invested all the money in a DVR Machine.

Re: Freaking

Yeah, it does sort of defeat my idea, but in all, I enjoy the ability to record the episodes of AS or ANY other show on TV and then burn them to DVD if I want to watch them on my TVs or at a friends house. I highly doubt that the versions they send on the net will be as high quality and will be locked down via DRM.... Of course they could just send out mpegs with no DRM.

You know, I really tried to like Harvey Birdman. I must have watched four or five of them, but I ended up taking it off the Tivo. I dunno, maybe I just didn't get it.

Hmm

The article doesn't state whether the episodes are available to download or stream. I'm assuming it'll be streamed, but if I'm wrong, it could help dissuade Bittorrent distribution.

Longtime fan of AS!

I recently went from having Sat to Comcast. I missed my nightly 9:00PM start times! Comcast decided to hold the broadcast 4 hrs so it doesn't start till Midnight now.

The OnDemand stuff wouldn't be bad if Comcast would update it every week.

I have all the DVDs but hate missing the new episodes!

he he even my PC's name is MEATWAD
I have the domain meatwad.us too

Heck even my avatar features Meatwad!

At least you get on demand. For some reason, they decided to to give that to us. And I thought they already had it when I signed up.

So downloading the torrent is legal now

"offering full-length, streaming video of Adult Swim original comedies between 11 p.m.-6 a.m. (EST) each Friday night."

Remember, you don't give up any rights when someone offers a new service. The right to time shift is well established. So I can choose to capture the stream and view it later legally. Or course, since I lack the technical knowhow to exercise my rights, I will just have someone else do it for me. So I'll just download the torrent of the avi that someone has done for me.

But that's just me. I view broadcast networks the same way. If it's on ABC, and it's over air, then hey, I can download it legally. It was broadcast, I do have a right to timeshift and spaceshift it, and I do have a right to have someone else handle the technical details of said timeshifting and spaceshifting. Cartoon network was on cable, so it's always beem a grey area, but if you pay for the cable channel on your lineup, you should be able to download the show. I'm a customer, I choose to watch TV the way I want to watch it. I didn't sign a contract saying 'I have to watch TV the way they say I should watch TV'.

Thats's why I want 100MB up/down on my internet connection. The world will be a much better place when we stop being consumers and start being customers again.

oh goodie...

I don't have to feel so bad now about having all the episodes on my computer already...

Long live BT, and unregulated internet access! Now if only VZ would get around to adding FIOS in my area, I'd be all over that 30mbps like a fly on a beef patty!

Here is the lowdown on the ATHF deal

Adult Swim Friday Night Fix to Begin 9/16
09/06/2005

AdultSwim.com will launch Adult Swim Friday Night Fix on Friday, Sept. 16, offering full-length, streaming video of Adult Swim original comedies between 11 p.m.-6 a.m. (EST) each Friday night. The lineup will include one episode of seven or more shows and will refresh periodically. Offerings will include first-look at premieres like The Boondocks, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law and Stroker & Hoop before they make their on-air debuts two nights later, as well as current favorites like Robot Chicken and Venture Bros., plus archival episodes of shows like Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

Adult Swim Friday Night Fix is the latest fan-friendly feature added to the site. AdultSwim.com recently launched the "Adult Swim Fan Collective," a social network which allows members to create personalized online profiles, blog and meet new friends with like interests. More than 80,000 members have joined in less than two months. In addition to news, clips, games, behind-the-scenes blogs and information from Williams St. staffers and the ever-popular message boards, AdultSwim.com plans to add ringtones and additional downloadable music in the near future.

Following are featured shows for the first month of Adult Swim Friday Night Fix.

* Friday, Sept. 16: Stroker & Hoop, Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, The Venture Bros., Sealab 2021, Space Ghost Coast to Coast

torrent?

I hope they make the releases as torrents without drm. It would be a shame to see them make such a cool decision and then fuck up on the details.

Re: I hope to God...

If only they'd put Trigun or Cowboy Bebop (sure you'd agree CC) back on and not at 4:30am...then again, I could just pick up the DVDs. But I guess I'm too cheap for that.

Now if they showed and streamed Evangelion...that would rock.

My little nugget of info...

To lazy to quote, but here goes:
said by ferricOxide - Then again, same can be said for Furi-Kuri (though they only seemed to show 3 rotations of that show).
- FLCL/ Furi Kuri/ Fooli Kooli has only 6 eps, so it's already been completely shown several times
said by combat Chuck - That the creators of Inuasha refuse to sign on to being rebroadcast over the internet. Otherwise within 3 months the stream will be all Inuasha...all the time.
--
- InuYasha has 168 eps, so it will be forever and a day befor you see the complete series on AS, ever notice how many times DB/Z/GT has been shown? I believe there is about 530 eps between the 3 of those, so take the forever and a day it will take for InuYasha and add a year befor those are completely shown. The dubbed InuYasha sucks, the subbed ones are way better IMO.
