FIOS is great if you can get it.  All Verizon can provide me is a half-speed modem connection. (Or a T1 line for really big bucks). Every time I see a Verizon DSL ad I just want to kick James Earl Jones in the nuts. | |

The sad truth is that DSL has only been deployed to 25% of Verizon's customers ,and most of the deployments are on the east coast. Forty years from now,they'll still be trying to deploy fios! I too have lost all hope in Verizon. On the bright side,Direct TV is getting in to MAN'S(Wifi) with deployments starting next year. | |

It must be a typo. Eitherway, very few parts of LI are even set up yet! I live in Jericho, a very "affluent" town, only a mile from Hicksville which is a major node for Cablevision. I have yet to see a single fiber truck anywhere!
I am interested in switching, but can't realistically expect to see this service offered to me before this time next year (if not later).

Cutting prices to defeat competition while other markets get higher prices is illegal unless Verizon can show cause (eg higher costs of delivery of the service). | |

Any store that has multiple chains has individual prices in each geographical store. A good example for you Californians would be the Frys chain. They charge different prices for stuff in different geo-locations. | |

By selecting a particular market to eliminate a competitor while discriminating (that is not offering the price to others) is Predatory Pricing and illegal. It is illegal to charge different customers different prices for like products unless it can be substantiated that the costs of delivering those products to market is different.
And here in California, all of the Fry's stores have the same prices...so as much as I've seen anyway, especially when it comes to advertisements. | |

The only redline you will see is a "redline" of blood running down your face after I drop you off in one of the hoods.

But, on the other hand, they should tweak the other 'teir' packages down $5 at least to swath some competitive juices while MEGA rampups in CENTRAL LONG ISLAND and NORTH SHORE towns for deployments. You need to get back to that blitzkreig of deployments asap,
BTW, the price change hasn't materialized on the website.

without any other service (but once you read the fine print it does say you need to be a tv customer...)
But are they 'relaxing' this restriction? Can you really get a $49.95 service for $29.95 with a year contract?
If so, cablevision is responding to $14.95 dsl as capped cablevision is about as reliable as the 768 or 1.5megabit dsl... in all reality with the caps on cablemodem usage. | |

| Who likes this? Why is this so great? What Veriozon is doing is EVERYTHING that is complained about here.
1) they are only rolling this out to "specific areas" and not foot print wide. This is only as a competition tool. If Comcast or others did this, you all would be screaming bloody murder.
2) They require a "qualifying voice product" and a "term commitment" to get this price. Wait! Isn't this a "penalty" or "blackmale" fees? or non bundle penalty?
You guys that are happy over this are nothing but sell-outs. You show your true colors and lost all resepct. You want the speeds and truly don't care about anything but yourselves.
Can't anyone see that VErizon here is doing everything that you guys hate about the cable companies? Don't you see what happens if and or when they get enough people online at FiOS? Prices go up, and service will go down. They get resolut and don't care anymore. It's the SAME THING that SBC is doing with their so-called $14.95 DSL service. It's to suck enough people awayjust long enough to damage the other guy - and they the other guy is down, SBC jacks the price. They even spell it out for you!
At least Comcast comes clean about what they are selling.
