I wish....

I wish my laundry machine e-mailed me when it was done....

I remember in '92, my sophomore year of college, I got FREE dialup service from the college (I lived off campus), and I thought that was the most awesome thing in the world.

Now your maytag could someday be a spam zombie....

Heh, I got free dial-up Internet connections in 1995. However, there were only three numbers/POPs for a small university!!

When I was in college, we had it great: we had data switches in our dorm that allowed you to use SLIP to connect your computer to the college backbone.

Same way at my school back in the day. 19.2k connection on-campus when dial up modems were running at 9600...but then I had to put up with my roommate who hardly ever showered.:(

Awww

Just got done with my freshman year in the dorms and I must say that the laundry thing is neat. Wish I could have had that. So many kids would leave their laundry sitting in the machines well after it was done simply because they forgot while they were chatting online.

Same here, sort of. Fortunately I have no life so I usually did my laundry on Friday and Saturday nights when all the machines were empty and I would time it on my cell phone so that I would be there when it was done. The few times I did it in the day (particularly Sundays when people where getting ready for the week), it would not be uncommon to see crap left in machines or piled on top of machines for about 36 hours. How do you forget about your clothes anyway?

Re: Awww

People forgetting their clothes didn't bother me, since I'd just take them out and put them on top of the machine. What did bug me, however, were the jerks who wanted to freeload off your dryer time. There was one time where some a**hole pulled my stuff out of the dryer before it was done and threw it on the floor, then put his stuff in on my money. Luckily, I caught it quickly, so I just took his out, threw it in a big pile on the floor, put mine back in, then I got a big 64 oz. cup, filled it with water, and soaked his clothes through and through. I was just waiting for him to pull that stunt again, since the next time, I wasn't going to fill the cup with water.

SJSU

SJSU CampusVillage is the newest state of the art living facility in the california uc / state education system. WiFi access on each floor and across the entire campus. Cable TV and on-Demand Tv Shows/movies, Game service. I'm currently attending SJSU, I'll take pictures for everybody. This coupled with SJSU library (Martin Luther King Jr. Library) the largest on the west of the mississippi makes sjsu a great place to get an education.

I recently transferred from SJSU after 2 semesters. It was an awful experience with educators so lack in basic knowledge and common sense, it was shocking (I was in the MIS program). I even had the Dean of Business change my grade higher in one class after I fought a teacher on a final paper, and eventually won. The library and freshman dorms did squat for me. It's nice to have fast access, but all that it did for me was find another school faster online. The place was a nightmare.

Well, English was never my strong suit. Perhaps "lacking" would have worked better. Just thinking about my experience there enrages me so much, I'm surprised I was able to type at all.

Not like when I went to college in the late 60s

We had a pay phone in the hall. A black & white 9" portable TV and a portable typewriter.

How did we ever cope w/o computers, cable TV, and cellphones?

Lots of beer drinking and sex.:D

What A Waste

And people wonder why the education in this country is doing so poorly.

They'll take tuition and invest in something like this, but not use it to invest in not constantly changing requirements for your major, getting good profs, or getting good programs.

Re: What A Waste

No kidding it's a waste. I just got my first bill and it's so bloated with so many non-optional fees it's unbelievable. If they want something new and improved to tell the world about they just tack on another fee and they have no problems implementing it. I just wish I could pay to get an education and save a lot of money.
