| Re: Organized crime getting into internet scams ONe of my clients was cought in part of this scam. When they told me what they were getting, I told them MANY TIMES to stay away as there was NO-WAY they would be able to deliver on their promise. 5 months later, they were switching back to PacBell and all other services.
Also, I don't see how you see this tied to the internet. It was all done in paper, and involved telecommunications. Phone service, 800 numbers, telephone systems, internet connections, and unlimited sprint cellular service. What am I missing?

People tend to believe anything related to the Internet...for cheap, free, too technical for them to understand.

It's MY understanding that they found businesses to solicit based on financial data they mined somewhere.

Increasingly, the line between telecom and and the internet is becoming blurred. The same backbones that carry our precious TCP/IP packets also carry a lot of voice traffic, too. T1s used to provide lines for a mid-sized PBX phone system are far from uncommon. From what I read, these guys were not only scam leasing the equipment, they were retailing Qwest and Sprint services, who ultimately forced them into bankruptcy to the tune of $30M. -- I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout.
