10Gbps Monster Connection Scientists have all the fun... Tuesday Aug 16 2005 09:17 EDT Scientists have conducted the first successful system test of a new coast-to-coast, 10-Gigabit per second Ethernet cyber backplane – or 'lambda' – linking the NASA research center to UCSD 3,000 miles away. The ability to view uncompressed high-quality (and massive) data in real-time will increasingly be used in everything from astronomy to hurricane research. "These successful demonstrations showed significant progress in achieving the Holy Grail of collaborative computational Earth and space science for the early decades of the 21st century," says NASA's Milton Halem. |
