A Christian anti-porn group dubbed the "Alliance for a Safer Internet" is demanding Cox Communications "halt its distribution of Usenet newsgroups." The group is primarily concerned with "child pornography and other obscene images", content that usually comes along with unfiltered access to Usenet.

"It's been going on for years, and it's time that Cox put an end to it," says Alliance for a Safer Internet president Paul Cardin. "On Friday, August 5, the Alliance notified Cox officials that they were distributing probably illegal material," reads the group's press release. "Appropriate law enforcement agencies were notified on Monday, August 8."

In semi-related news the FCC has brought anti-pornography activist and Christian Conservative Penny Nance in as an advisor on indecency.
