You see any Joe's Broadband wires strung from those poles? Can you get a T-1 or DSL line or POTS line where Verizon/yourILEC is NOT the last mile carrier? Can you get cable TV service from anyone else? This is not complicated.

Of course there will be fools on here who say that Verizon is wrong to install fiber and then there are people who yell about how Verizon isn't installing fiber fast enough.
I'm laughing and I'm sure the execs at Verizon are too because we know damn well the average consumer will buy this AWESOME deal! 15/2 for $45-50/month is excellent compared to what Americans have as an option today for Broadband.

Just because the teller holds the door open for the robber doesn't get the robber off the hook. Verizon should return the money and the politicians strung up on trees for being stupid enough to enter into an agreement with a company like Verzion.
While we all are smiles over Verizon's deployment it shouldn't be seen as Verizon's greatness that led to it. They've been promising and taking taxpayer money for 10 years to just now be getting around to it.
IOW, Verizon doesn't deserve in any way shape or form the universal praise they seem to receive here for their FIOS deployment.
I as a California Resident with a business in an area seeing FIOS deployment say it's about f*cking time considering the billions upon billions they received from Joe Taxpayer. And just because it wasn't me getting ripped off doens't change the fact that PA residents got screwed and it sucks.

As soon as I switched (email and newsgroups issues) from Verizon DSL to Earthlink DSL it stopped working. | Just in time... I had Fios installed on 5/17, and dumped my Optimum Online service a week later after 5 years of service.
With all sorts of problems (capping, speeds halved, etc.) happeing in 2005, Fios could not have come at a better time.
Without getting into the specifics of it, the Fios connection is better than my Optimum Online connection in every way. Website stalls, slow page loading, etc. are all a thing of the past.
Lots of rumors about CV this year; sales to Time Warner among the largest unconfirmed one. And from what I can see since I've been a member (Dec 1999 to May 2005), a possible over-selling of their service.
It's nice to see Netpersec give me a true 15/2.
Not really sure what CV will do when enough people hear about Fios being available in their area, and their TV package is offered.

| Competition rocks. I don't understand the Optimum Online bashing. Be glad you're not stuck with Time Warner. When I lived in south Brooklyn I had OOL, I loved it. I fought for it. Then I moved to Bay Ridge and had to get Road Runner. I could have gotten DSL too, in fact I only live 150 feet from the CO, but I need cable's speed.
Well we finally got 5mb/s downloads...and that is still half the speed of OOL. But I pay the same 60 dollars a month for Time warner that I did for cablevision (I don't get TV service)
If verizon rolled out FIOS tomorrow, I would throw my cablemodem out the window tomorrow.
Competition is good in broadband. VERY GOOD. -- If at first you don't succeed...bug them till you get what you want.

Maybe cablevision can squeeze (SUE) some more money out of people who they -think- are stealing their service, thats one tactic thats gotten them alot of money in the past.. but with all the rate increases, now poor service on cablemodems (the revnue builder that saved the company from going down the tubes) It looking bleaker and bleaker for the cable company. I've seen lots of dish network intalls and verizon fios installs gaining steam in some of the fist areas deployed in NY, (massapequa, syosset, port washington, seaford, wantagh, etc) Cablevision can't win this or any other battle it wages now, even though the west side stadium won't be built, alternate sites WILL! they have announced that they are doing fios in my town so hopefully by end ofyear I can upgrade to it... probably be the same price becuase i can then get rid of my stupid extra phone line on the dsl acct that i don't use..
only issue is how will it work ... myphone is current resid. because it is a house.. but i got a bus. dsl acct because I wanted the static ips and run servers at home...
