Seriously though, this is not a well thought out name. PITA has been used many times already. Here is a short list of other people using it:
- Pacific International Trapshooting Association
- Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association
- Palestinian Information Technology Association
- Paper Industry Technical Association
- Professional Internet Travel Alliance
- Pennsylvania Infrastructure Technology Alliance
- Practical Interdisciplinary Tractable Algorithms (PITA Group)
And my personal favorite from the urban dictionary...
- Pain In The Ass
All I can say is Pete, get in line.

| worthless Stock options are worthless if the stock price doesn't go up. SBC's stock hasn't moved in five years. That's why the guy is still holding on to the options and hasn't cashed them in yet. If you buy a half million worth of stock and sell it for a half million, that's not exactly an incentive to be someone's champion. | |

| Re: worthless That is completely true, I have yet to see a MuniBB start up where there wasn't already an Incumbent. At least in all the cases where I've dealt with it personally. I'm sure there are Munis out there with pure intentions, but mostly they're there to drive someone else out. | |

Tying the hands of local gov'ts who are trying to help their citizens or their business community is the polar opposite of what they are there for in the first place.

| Pete Sessions is.... Another wanna-be Dick Tater to don the mask of fascism..for a seat in..
A fascist government, with a right-wing capitalist bent. Particularly with a citizenry willing to compromise their rights for the sake of being provided "security".....
Actually three of the several signs of any incoming fascism are 1.A continuous war (verbal or physical) against an enemy 2.More and more limiting personal freedom in return for "security" 3.Close ties with the big corporations, in terms of laws (pro-corporate, anti-intividual laws in return of pro-government corporate support). Ummm, wait a sec... It's here quickly being implemented. We already see the rules appearing. In the form of "Do as I say not as I do".Vote that "mofo" out of office. If need be get that lame azz law repealed if passed.Time to show them where the bus stop is.

| said by guitarzan :citizenry willing to compromise their rights for the sake of being provided "security"..... I totally agree with you. Though you did simplfy the steps a bit, but they are definitely part of the beginning steps. It amazes me how much of this type of thing you can read about here on BBR forums and few recognize the real problems or even offer solutions. "Just give me gazillion Gbps download and I will be happy" seems to be the only thing people want on these forums. It's time to start creating real obstacles and show our govt, the EU, and WTO that they will not get there way w/o a fight. In non-democratic societies where autocratic rulers and tyrannical oligarchies frequently flourish, and compassionate benevolent leaders are rare, massive violence is normally the only course of action available for altering the status quo. quote by Clark, Major Jackie K, U.S. Marine Corps 1988. | |

| A better proposal Instead of just banning Muni form wiring up broad band networks, how about one prohibiting federal tax dollars to be used to build public broadband networks nor levy any new taxes on Internet, Phone connection to fund Muni Networks. The States could do likewise.
My proposal will be the Tax Payer Telecommunication Protection Act. It will be my goal to bring out the real issue. A bunch of big spending politicians want to stay in office. Building networks, except for the defense department, is one program government does not need to involve it self. My tax dollars should only go to protecting our citizens, Fire and Police. The rest should be left to private enterprise.

| Re: A better proposal And how do you think the police and fire are supposed to protect you if they don't have access to high speed connections, through out your City. And how much do you want your politicians to pay the incumbents for those services? What do you think it costs to create the video to the car, or to support mobile data terminals, or to build redundant communications to insure support for disasters?
Small cities don't have purchasing power, they pay high rates for T-1s and more. These bills even prevent Institutional Networks (I-Nets) so the incumbents can have anchor tenants for their sub-optimal (with respect to bandwidth, features and functionality) networks.
