Beating the competition, the wrong way ...
(old news - 11:34AM Saturday Mar 19 2005)
tags: security · trouble
A Michigan man and New Jersey teen were arrested on Friday for launching distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks aimed at computer servers supporting the Web sites of online sportswear business competition. (Detroit Free Press) "It was a fairly large attack," said FBI Special Agent Tim Nestor, supervisor of the FBI cybercrime squad in New Jersey, adding that on "one day over the summer it knocked out a backbone provider of Internet service in eastern Pennsylvania for 12 hours." Charges against the two included conspiring to transmit a program to damage a computer and computer theft by denial of service.

Unfortunately, stuff like this happens much more than what you hear and read about.

It's unlikely there is any connection to things that happened here.

There's nothing that suggests that the responsible party had anything to do with our attacks, and my strong suspicion is that he did not.

Re: Wow

I can't wait to read the news story about the BBR attacker(s) caught.
Sounds like somebody dropped the dime on these two in the story BTW.

Punishment...

Let's throw dodgeballs at them for punishment... hundreds of thousands of them all at once for hours on end.

You are so nice, I would have used baseballs, much more effective.

Dodgeballs are good, but marbles are better.

(Reaches for his Kerplunk box)

On a serious note though, glad to see we're still putting em' away... even if it is just one or two at a time.

Start spreading the news...

The criminals site jerseydomain.com is still up & running
so without reading their TOS or AUP I emailed his hosting company (»webhostingcanada.org) a link to the story just for the heck of it.

Re: Start spreading the news...

Not only was it fast but his other site
www.customleader.com which earlier today redirected to the jerseydomain site is down too.
Chalk one up for good corporate citizenship!

edit The customleader site was also hosted by »webhostingcanada.org/
not only are they responsibly fast, their thorough too!
