| It will always be "spyware" To me at least, all of these companies that have infested our computing experience over the years have been permanently branded in my mind as "spyware" (or whatever "ware" you wish to use)  , and until these companies are out of business and gone from the face of the planet i will do everything in my power to keep this crap off of my system, no matter how much they try to clean up their so called "image". | |

The sad story is that however they change their image, most users will never care, becaues they don't care to know and somehow "live" with the fact their computer will have popups, and their home pages will change to stupid search sites.
180Solutions had some IE exploit last year that auto installed their SPYWARE, what else do you want me to call it? Took me a painstaking hour to track down everything and save a computer without formatting. | |

| Who Cares What You Call It? The fact of the matter is that in my own experience it's mostly kids and teens who click through the EULA much like digging through the breakfast cereal box for the toy.
When the truth of that hits the regulators that these scumbags (are you listening 180Solutions?) are picking on kids, they no doubt will take steps to insure that minors are no longer exploited by these slight of the hand backdoor poopware installs. | |

For example, I love Roller Coasters. Do you think I want pop-ups every 5 seconds on every coaster in the world?
If I want to look for something, there are search engines out there for me to use, WHEN I AM READY TO.
Its one thing to market something, and be able to help people find what they are looking for. The problem I have is that unless I go to google, altavista, webcrawler, etc, then I am NOT LOOKING for anything, so why shove ads in my face? 
That is why in my book they will always be (as others have said) "Spyware".
The only way I would use them as a service is if they had a webpage I could go (say 180solutions.com), and then allowed me to do a search for products. Nothing installed on the client PC. Just a search engine like the others out there.
If that never happens, then they belong in the same group as the sludge at the bottom of the Hudson River.
