State repeals origin law for new effort
(old news - 01:55PM Sunday Mar 13 2005)
tags: prices · Oddities
Some Florida lawmakers wanted to take a 1985 tax law designed for companies who provided their own telecom services, and morph it into a VoIP tax; even possibly a tax on home networks. A user sends us this St. Petersburg Times report noting that the Florida House has instead apparently voted to repeal the old law entirely.

Re: Wow, a competent House!

May want to rethink your last statement. They're now trying to start a toilet paper tax.

Hmm....

"I'm of the opinion that tax breaks are no different than spending. Both have to be considered within the context of the budget," Lee said.

Apparently they have tried to repeal before...I think they will not give up, but try and rework the law more...I thought that repubs aren't for taxes? makes you wonder....

Flush with bright ideas!

I guess Florida lawmakers figure they can generate more revenue with the recently proposed toilet paper tax since everyone uses toilet paper!

If I lived in Florida and that passed I'd stop using toilet paper and start wiping my ass with printed out pictures of the politicians who passed the tax.

If it passes I'm sending them some used toilet paper and asking for a tax refund.

my guess is they figured out that the only way to tax home networking stuff was at the point of sale and no way to know who allready has a home network since well even the ISP probally cant tell a router from a PC as they just assign an IP address.

One more for the good guys

My boss is a State rep here in Florida, when I first saw the story on DSLR months ago I made sure to complain to him about it. Every little bit helps.
