| I think I noticed why it passes. In firefox, the default setting of one allows you to click a link twice to allow the popup. I guess the program figures that if it tried to pop up twice, then you must be asking for it. If you visit the site in question with IE, you'll notice that you get 2 pop-up's, not 1. The one thing I noticed is, they are different pop-ups. This both sets a good and bad precident. The good is, the firefox designers could potentially query to see if both pop-ups are from the exact same full url. (not just domain) The bad news is, sites could start creating 2 popups of the same kind. This could wind up being a game of cat and mouse.
1 popup blocked, 2 clicks opens desired popup. 2 popups blocked, 3 clicks opens desired popup. 3 popups blocked, 4 clicks opens desired popup.
You get the idea, how this could be bad. Some may wonder what a desired popup is. Many web sites open a new window when an external link is clicked so you can keep both pages live. As it stands, double clicking the link allows you to open it, because firefox senses the fact that page tried to open twice, not once and it's disable_from_plugins is 1.

Select a state then select a city. You will still see two popups. I have adblock installed with advanced filters so the new windows are blank (No text or pictures) but it is still a pain to close those.

I typed in about:config in my Firefox location bar but am confused on how to create the integer you suggested. I went to the Filter bar and typed it in but I don't know how to enter it and complete this task. Please advise step-by-step if not too much of a hassle for you. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

| I've seen that before. The ad script puts an "onclick" attribute on the body tag. Then, when you click anywhere on the page, the script opens a new window and writes code to that window. This gets around pop-up blockers in two ways:
1. The pop-up window is being "requested" by the user when they click so most pop-up blockers will let it through.
2. The content doesn't come from a particular address so URL-based pop-up blockers won't catch it.
A third-party script blocker (as described in my other post) would be able to stop these. Can't say that I know of any in existence right now though. -- -Jason Levine http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/ http://www.PCQandA.com/ http://www.urateit.com/

| Good news and Bad news The good news is that pop-up ads are declining. The bad news is that DHTML Floater ads are increasing. These ads use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to float an ad over the webpage (either for a specified period of time, or until the user clicks it away). The problem is, it's hard to block these. If you block DHTML capabilities, you block a lot of useful functionality that webpages are using for constructive purposes.
IMO, the best solution that I can tell would be third-party script blocking. Most of these ads are generated from JavaScripts that an advertising server generates. My recommendation would be to ignore script tags if the src attribute doesn't point to a file on the same server as the parent document. You could have a whitelist for exceptions and show the blocked scripts in an information bar just like blocked pop-ups.
For example, a page on www.example.com is trying to load a script that resides on www.anothersite.com. The browser would ignore the script and display the information bar to let the user know. However, another script called from the same page resides on the whitelisted google.com and so it is let through. -- -Jason Levine http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/ http://www.PCQandA.com/ http://www.urateit.com/

| Stop the BS I love Firefox, but Firefox has such a small percentage of users that they have no effect as big as that on pop ups. You know what happened? People are getting smarter and not clicking the damn pop ups, thus advertisers don't waste time on them anymore.
This site is so pro-Firefox it is not funny. It's almost getting annoying.... I love and support Firefox, but I'm not going to say every good thing under the sun is because of Firefox!
