New Cablevision Bundle Prices
Reduces triple-play by $25
Last June, Cablevision offered new triple-play customers a bundled $90 price for all three services (Optimum On-line, Optimum Voice, and Cable TV), an offer not extended to existing customers. Those customers were paying up to $140 a month, a price that has been reduced to $115 a month according to discussion in our Optimum On-line forum.

If you have a TIVO do not get Optimum voice.

As your TIVO will not be able to call out and the get the show listings. I have not been able to download these lists since dec22 of 2004. I was told they do not support modems,TIVO,security systems. But they do support Fax.

These people must think we are that stupid? Any way i now have to bring my Tivo to work in order to get my listing.. I wonder though...
Maybe this has some colaration with optimum offing their DVR service..

in any event I'm one pissed off customer!

I'll give them one more month then I'm calling the Dpuc..
As internet is over cable and phone is over cable , in this instance voip is using cable as the transporter.

The problems with TiVO and VOIP are quite well known and have been discussed in-depth in the VOIP forum and elsewhere on the net for at least the last two years... Older Series one tivos can work with VOIP (Vonage), but newer series 2s will not.

The solution to getting a series one to work can be found in the VOIP forum archives or through a quick google search. The solution getting a series 2 to work is to get the network adapter.

As for getting a modem to work, why? If your broadband is out, so is the phone line... Security alarms, etc. require a different type of connection that VOIP cannot support.

Because VoIP digitizes and compresses the signal (and its a lossy compression) and recreates the analog signal on the other end, some information that is needed for high speed modems are lost in the process. This does not effect regular conversation as human ear cannot differentiate the difference much.

Here are two solutions that you can try with TIVO. They are written for Vonage service but at least the USB network adapter solution should work for your TIVO.

It is the same modem right but it is not PSTN network anymore. Modem is designed to work on PSTN network....

If you have HSI, you can hook up a USB Ethernet adapter to your TIVO to get the show listings.

I am not assuming you technology illiterate but since I am an embedded software engineer that has worked creating software for network equipment, I am assuming that perhaps you are not aware of all caveats of this technology (neither I am claiming that I know it all either).

Many things may have changed if it worked first. If they changed their codec (to a lower bandwidth one) what used to work before may not work now. Jitter in the line might change codec behavior as well... Some sort of bandwidth management might be dropping some of the packets. They might have installed a low pass filtering on the other end eliminating some higher frequencies. There are many many more ways to break it!

As I said, it is a hit and miss. Best solution, forget about analog modems and use a USB network adapter for your Tivo.

Kudos to CV for trying..but.....

It appears that CV will charge exisiting customers FULL PRICE for each of their 3 services (TV, OOL, OV) then Credit the Bill with $25.00.
They also don't give the existing $5.00 reduction which most of us get already for using OOL WITH TV packages. Thus the real extra saving is not $25.00, but is $20.00 p.m.

For me I uses P8 already and ported my number and can use P8 wherever I move. P8 costs $20.00 p.m. rather than the $35.00 (I think it's 35 not 30) for OV. Hence for me there is no incentive to use the new offer.

ov is normally 34.95 with the $20 credit you would get for having all three services its like your getting ov for $14.95, comes in cheaper then your P8

About the Tivo/Optimum Voice thing.. I just wanted to say that I have a Series 2 TiVo (specifically a Toshiba Digital Media Server with TiVo Series 2), and it can dial out on my OV line. I've even had someone use dial up internet on my OV line as well. Obviously someone else's mileage may vary-- since my OOL connection is going around 8.9Mbps, maybe there's enough bandwidth to not have to compress the signal much-- but I still thought it was interesting.
