| Awesome idea Awesome idea for a domain name and I bet a lotta sites would use it, I doubt many would switch and no way in hell all would comply.
Still, some being on it is better than none and easier for parents to filter out while giving prono sites a cool domain ending. -- I have a signature. | I also have a website/blog.

I doubt the delegate / represenative has any idea how to force hosted sites in other countries how to comply with this strong arm kind of tactic. You know, some folks think that if they legilate it into law, everyone on the planet must comply.

Am I missing something? That depends. While the creation of a .SEX domain MAY be original (I'm not sure), the "unoriginal" reference was to the creation of SOME domain to segregate these domains into. I seem to remember the suggestion of (or it might even have been a bid to act as the Registrar for) a .XXX Domain (which bid/offer/suggestion as rejected by the PTB in charge of Authorizing new domain suffixes).

Don't get me wrong; I don't like censorship in general-but parents are obligated (IMO) to censor their childrens' internet exposure to sites that are "grown-up"...
Nothing wrong with "porn", when the peruser is "of age"...
Or should I say "pr0n"?
But I agree with prior posters who wonder if .com sites will comply. More must be done, but I have no suggestions.
This might be a good first step to help netizens control the amount of "undesirable" traffic that is slammed into their boxen...

1 edit | How long did that idea take to get out? Ive heard this talked about several times, but never in the news.......
My child will soon figure out where I hid the IE icon. I do not want him browsing until I can figure out a easy way to filter at my router.
Creating this domain would be very helpful to parents. I cant think of how the ordinary computer user will be able to do this without hours and hours of research and or spending the buck to have someone else set filtering up. Not to mention school systems, librarys, etc.
How hard can it be to block a domain?
hosts file: *.sex 127.0.0.1
easy................
Will the pr0n sites comply? I think out of common sense and respect for parents they would, which is a pipe dream. It should be mandatory. If The USA led the way, others will follow.

| How about this idea How about instead of trying to figure out what sites are bad, have good sites give some sort of identification that they are good or child friendly. Use a certain meta tag or something simple like that to signify that they are safe. The filtering of good and bad sites becomes simple at that point. This idea of corralling bad sites or making the bad sites regulate themselves is a waste of time. Software to try and detect bad sites is always flawed and has a tendency to give false positives. The responsible good sites can easily use something simple to signify that they are safe. The only way a kid could see these bad sites now is if someone intentionally lured them into the site by intentionally signifying they are child friendly, in this case they would easily be open to prosecution since they can no longer deny they didn't try to entice them. Basically if you want kids in your site, you as the web master then have to make a conscious decision to do that and then take full responsibility for the content. All other sites need do nothing and should not have to worry about kids seeing their content. If not a perfect idea but I think its more practical then the current solutions | |

| Re: BRILLIANT! i like the .ass idea i wonder if i could preregister kick.ass and kicks.ass hmm
Seriously though there are so many porn sites out their useing keyword padding to get as many hits as possible its not even funny. Think about how many harmless searches kids make with and with out parents around that have porn site results.
Searc h g rated on google and alarge portion of the sites are adult related (not all porn). Search for final fantasy least back when the game ff7 was first out and it turned up pages of hits related to porn sites. You had to dig through 2 or 3 pages or porn hits to find one game related site. The list goes on and on.
Thats when i sent a letter to my states representitives about a adult meta tag that all porn sites in the us and any other country who would enforce it would have to include or face having their site closed. This would do nothing to hurt the sites legitimate hits and would prob increase their hits. Simply put meta=adult search engine has option to filter out or filter for the meta tag. Like googles some what flawed safe search but on steroids. Surfer puts check box by adult sites only punches in his key words and hits search and all he recieves is adult related sites. Surfer put no check mark gets unfiltered results puts check box by no adult and gets all sites witht he meta tag filtered out. Youd could carry this idea even further. Movies music etc meta tags. This would let you target your searches much much beter. It would not subtract from legitimate sites useing elgit key words.
Example of multiples filters being used to find only adult movies and pictures would be. series of check boxes adult only none movies only none images only none texts only none
Users selects adult only movies none images only inputs search key words clicks search. Results would show only adult images and no movies(clips) in this example he would still find some hits that were related to adult related stories but because of no check box selected they would be further down in the results while getting no video only sites.
This wouldnt just qoute unqoute protect kids from finding porn but would make it easyer for the porn surfer to find what they want. While at the same time allowing me sence i have no intrest in porn to find what i want with out the massive polution. This would be a good thing for all but those web masters who choose to out and out target childrens searches to increase their websites hits and there for its ammount of profit. -- new 3d chat comunity at »planetvirtuel.com my site »spellbound.valshea.com/news.php
