I think the key here is the "to complement" part of that phrase.
I seriously doubt all these people driving around in $50k vehicles with a factory installed home theatre system will flinch at another $10 or $15 bucks a month while they sit in traffic going to and from their myriad activities and sporting events.

If they charge 10-15 MORE for video.. It'll be too far out to really be able to accept for a bit of video in your car, expecially when it is for kids(Primarily) and quite frankly, they don't care if you show the same DVD ten times.. In fact.. They would rather do just that in many cases.

| Re: For RV's said by DonLibes : said by Gundam_Toon :It could hopefully be a cheaper alternative for motorhomes... rather than having full satellite TV service Can someone explain why Sirius satellite TV would not require the antenna alignment that traditional satellite requires? Because Sirius and XM both utilize ground based repeaters. Much like cell phone towers. Repeater stations rebroadcast the satellite signal to combat the vehicle having no view of the sky.
Thats why XM/sirius work in urban areas. Otherwise as soon as you entered a urban area your radio would stop working. -- Forum Posts:6000

| XM and Sirius. This isn't good news for anyone that knows about XM and Sirius Satellite radio in detail. When they do offer the service, they will have to take bandwidth away from the talk and music channels that are already on the service, as a result the sound quality will go down. Both XM and Sirius are strapped for bandwidth already. The video channels will probably be so compressed it will be like watching a music video over the internet. Its watchable but highly compressed. Of course I don't care because I like XM better than Sirius. Have 3 XM Radios, and can't stop listening. Better than an Ipod, for me anyway. | |

| Why do you think Sirius is in agreements with dish network ? To get more bandwidth while not having to have it allotted to them by the government.
The only thing XM has over Sirius is more repeaters. I have had both and XM had horrible play lists for their channels. Not to mention having to pay $2 to listen to O and A. Was a big fan of them until that point and that just sealed the deal that I was getting Sirius.
3 auto units and one home unit.... ALL SIRIUS best money i ever spent. Especially when you spend 10 to 12 hours a day on the road all over an area. -- "It's always funny until someone gets hurt......and then it's absolutely friggin' hysterical!"

Read about echo star and their plans for the future.
The feeds will also be up linked by dish network, for Sirius. -- "It's always funny until someone gets hurt......and then it's absolutely friggin' hysterical!"

It's one thing to pick up a audio signal from the XM and Sirius birds but a video stream while doing 60MPH is another thing all together.
The TracVison dish will come down in price as soon as there is more competition. And with TracVision you get 100+ channels.

| Dish / DirecTV / Hughes
I think the best response in this entire thread is from ASTAMAND. DirecTV already has the product, you get 100+ channels, and the dish that mounts on top is not really all that protrusive. The reason this will be a good product is that eventually, the internet is going to start taking a role here. This puts DirecTV in a good position to capitalize on their technology already inplace. All they will need is a modified version of the current product that includes a transceiver. Picture it... Internet access anywhere in the continetal US, access to over 100+ channels of video. Now, hook up your VoIP phone and kiss Sprint, Cingular, and Verizon goodbye because all of your services are under one umbrella.... Sure there are some minor and some major obstacles to overcome (legislative and technological) but tis is the future baby !!!!

For folks with monitors in their cars, imagine watching high quality TV and movies with your Sirius service? What's even more great is now BMW, Ford, Chrysler, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, etc. now offer Sirius built in. And don't forget that Sirius is also for the home. I have it hooked up to my home theater system and it's the greatest.

| XM better? I have Sirius and I am a big fan of the whole idea of satellite radio. But to say XM is better i do not think is true. XM does have some very small and nice PnP units. But they have a Sirius problem. As far as I last read both of there satellites have defective batteries and will at best be able to only stay up for half there life cycle. SO they will have to put there spare up plus build two more. I have listened to the music and content on XM and Sirius in my opinion is much better. I enjoy the shows on Faction 28 and Shade 45. Just my opinion on the streams. | |

| XM and Sirius. XM has deeper playlist, and for me thats what I like. Sirius is more hit driven. XM also has better hardware, and is cheaper. Yeah I know you have to pay extra for O&A, and online streaming, but if you don't want that stuff its cheaper. They recently had a free play for O&A and I listened, they sucked so I didn't subscribe, and I'm saving money. Again, I personally hate the hit driven playlist on Sirius, I like hearing songs that I haven't heard in a long time or that I haven't ever heard. BTW, Sirius was debating on raising prices awhile ago, don't know about now though.
