| Can't wait! I have gotten the DS the first day it came out and I just can't wait for this. From dual screens to touching now it's going to online capabilities. Let's just hope Nintendo "officialy" releases their own online service on the DS and not let it fail like it did on the Gamecube. Looking forward to this soon.
By the way... the DS rocks! -- I will find the center in you, I will chew it up and leave. I will elevate you, just enough to bring you down. Maynard James Keenan

| Re: Can't wait! I love every single game you have mentioned and own. It's just it's a first to see something like this to come out. I really don't see how it's too bulky, I think it's perfect for it's size especially when it's fliped down and what it's capable of doing. I mean try making a portable with dual screens, touch pad, built microphone, backwards compatibility, extra controls, for only $150 and see how small you can make it. It's just like having the N64 in your hands, but even better and inovative as it is.
I also like the way Nintendo is heading for adult gaming now, hence the name "Nintendo DS" and not Game Boy. -- I will find the center in you, I will chew it up and leave. I will elevate you, just enough to bring you down. Maynard James Keenan

| day late and a dollar short this is news? people have been hacking away at the DS since the first week it was out back in November.
and they are not "hacking" so to speak. majority of the work right now is finding a way to use the proprietary wireless through standard wifi, but so far its coming to a point where you will need dead on specific hardware for it to work.

| After a poor launch... they're just looking for something to do with it. I mean, 5 games come launch day? They should've held off on the release until they had mediocre following.
And what's even more sad? When the PSP launches in March (I think it's March), it will have more games then the DS up until that point in time. A true shame if you ask me.
And yes, I also have a DS. Plan on buying a PSP when it launches too.

also, imo, the DS and the PSP are not on a level playing field. the DS was made to be a pure gaming system. nothing else. the PSP was made to be an all purpose entertainment portable.

And guess what, the GameBoy platform went on to be the most popular platform for video games, ever. Yes, but when the original GameBoy launched it was the only portable game system around. So even if they totally screwed up the original gameboy launch (which nintendo has done with every system after the NES IMHO) they still succeeded.
The new game boy has three major things going against it: 1. No software: kinda hard to convince someone to buy a new system so few games, sony certainly has the licensee advantage here. 2. Demographics: Most gameboy owners probably prefer their playstion over their gamecube, so if given the choice most will probably go with sony. 3. Competition: Not only does this unit have to compete with sony, but nokia (well kind of), and even the old SP units still being sold.
Given those three factors, nintendo can ill afford to botch a launch lest they lose their last niche portable sector of the market to sony. -- 128kbps too much, 100GBps never enough!

| Re: After a poor launch... This happened to the GBA too. I hardly found the launch titles appealing at the time, yet I bought one after a year when the good titles started coming out. Now it outsells the PS2. DS has the potential for some great games down the road. It was just a quick release.
1. We'll wait and see what PSP has to offer on release. 2. That is a baseless assumption. I am the owner of both and like them both equally, and I doubt that statement would be true for the majority. They both have unique strengths. Gamecube owners don't tend to be displeased that they made the purchase. 3. Agree except Nokia should not even be mentioned

| I'd have to say that the GBA SP and even the original GBA will give the most competition to the DS - at least until the PSP arrives. I don't think Nokia even deserves mention when it comes to competition.
Another factor working against the DS is the fact that it costs $150. I'd just as soon tame my gaming habits to stay within my home and save some money. This factor is also going to work against the PSP as it's priced even higher.

And I was referring to the games available at launch that made it the poor launch that it was. I knew it was going to sell out, hence my waiting in line at 7 am. Maybe back in the original Gameboy days, 4 games was acceptable. Nowadays it isn't.

| Yeah, but the power required for laptops is quite freakin' huge. If they made an X-Box "lite" (or whatever you want to call it) it would end up costing a crapload more than the DS or even PSP. The xbox is just too advanced right now to be made into a little thing the size of personal cereal boxes. Aside from that, where would all the buttons go!? | |

| Just talk about the DS.
Really, I Think that the PSP's not a good affair.
It's a machine that offer to you to see films; yeah that's good. Do you really want to pay a film of UMD type for seeing a film ONLY ?
For the mp3, it's good but the price is too expensive. The size of the original card is only 32 mo ( 9 mp3).
For the games, i listened there are black pixels in each game. The time of play is 3h50 +- with 80% of the volume, all the original options.
Let's go to buy the Ds! It's full of capabilities, strong, nice and has beautiful games. Double screen with touch-screen, a pen and a lot of possibilities for playing!
And it's a Nintendo trademark! The leader in portable consoles. Sony made one thing, Sony made once. =)

| I just got a DS for Xmas, and its truly sweet, the graphics arent as good as Metroid Prime thru Component ont he 53" HDTV, but I wasnt expecting them to be :P. They truly are rich and vibrant and fast moving, built in wifi will give tons of options, all it needs are some basic PDA function software, MP3 player, video player, and expansion cards (can something like SecureDigital, already fit in a slot?). Then comes Emulation to play old NES and SNES games on them. Touch Screen and Dual Screen are a big plus and big chances for expansion and new developments in the future.
honestly, I like the looks of the PSP, I "may" end up getting one, provided they arent too expensive, for the graphics and nice game selection, but no doubt teh DS will be my favorite 10fold.
As for video, cant u use that GBA movie maker/player and plop it in this thing?
And isnt there a GBC/Original Gameboy adapter for the GBA, so you could play old Gameboy and Gameboy Color on your GameBoy Advance? Effectively, letting you adapt it again to play on your DS? lol.
Oh heck, how about MAME on the DS!?

| How the hell can you say that the Nintendo GBA and GBA SP will be competition for the Nintendo DS?! Are you fucking stupid? Nintendo owns all three of them and they don't care if a buyer's money goes toward a GBA or GBA SP or even a damned Gameboy as long as their money goes to Nintendo and no one else such as Sony. If anything the GBA and SP will just broaden and encourage Nintendo sales due to the perhaps low price and so on. | |
