Dial up may be around forever and neither will she.
Just goes to show you if you stick your head in the sand, you will be passed by.
What AOL needed to do is make those deals with broadband suppliers and take out the bloat most don't want.

She made that comment but this was supposedly her title within the company. "Three executives Lisa A. Hook, who headed the company's high-speed, or broadband, initiative". Well now we know why the company is having problems. When your head of your broadband unit is saying broadband is just a side issue. No wonder they can't get a leg up in the market. She is practically saying the division she is suppose to be running is pointless. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Cancer Cable Diagnostics My Blog

I put about a hundred in the garbage about a month ago. More polycarbonate plastic going into are already overcrowded landfills.
People a thousand years from now are going to dig these discs up and wonder why they are finding so many plastic Frisbee's that say AOL on them.
I can say one think about the AOL discs, when they are sent in metal containers, they become excellant reusable snail mail packaging. I just save the metal container and dump the plastic disc. If I have to mail a SP2 disc to someone, I just pop it in a AOL metal container, wrap some tape around it and mail it out with a new address label. The metal containers are postal indestructible.

1 edit | AOL Split Four Ways! See »slashdot.org/articles/04/11/09/1···20&tid=1
AOL To bE Split Into 4 Units Posted by CmdrTaco on Tuesday November 09, @12:13PM from the all-four-dedicated-to-mailing-me-crap dept.
unsupported writes "AOL is apparently dividing into four units to provide a clear direction for each. The four divisions are as follows: Audience (Advertising, and AOL IM, Moviefon, Mapquest, Netscape.com), Access (dial-up, highspeed), AOL Europe (for the foreigners), and Digital Services (Premium services, phone and music subscription). " This is exciting. Let's take bets on the order in which each of these "divisions" goes down the tubes, and in what horrifying manner...

| AOL is really going down and it paid us to help it Last week, in a desperate effort to gain more costumers, AOL offered a "small promotion targeted to a restricted number of potential costumers", where all news costumers would receive a $100 gift card for Amazon...
The word got out and this deal leaked on Fat Wallet and Ben's Bargains... The URL was closed within one hour after that more than 6000 new accounts had been opened. The GC should arrive by the end of the week and next week, I bet that AOL is going to lose 6000 newly signed costumers...
So, pull out your calculators: 6000 x $100 = $600 000 in gift certificates given away in couple hours... I hope they got a deal from Amazon on the price of the GC.
I expect to receive my GC by the end of the week, and I will rapidly close my "50-day free" account. I will then spend my GC on Amazon and will be happy to have helped AOL go down...

1 edit | Re: 26.4? You are going to make me dig ain't ya....
Compuserve was the first "Internet Company".
"The Source" was created by a different guy (Von Miester I think).
IBM created Prodigy.
I think Apple started up something called AppleLink...
Then I seem to remember that AppleLink turned in the the dreaded AOL... Then their was also a frenzy of buying and merging going on... More then the most popular whore house if I recall right...
Anyway... it went from bad to worse and that's for sure...
