Still offering new services despite sale
(old news - 11:08AM Thursday Aug 26 2004)
tags: business · cable
Though many Adelphia customers may find themselves served by a different cable company by year's end, the company's sale hasn't stopped them from rolling out new services. Catching up with other major providers, the company is finally adding "on demand" services in many markets, and will be offering firewall, anti-virus and pop-up blocker applications from Zero Knowledge Systems to broadband users. The company is also still slowly moving forward with DOCSIS 2.0 upgrades, and has stepped up to compete with other providers by offering 4Mbps speeds, and increased e-mail storage.

It seems like they are on a good track to getting out of brankruptcy. I wonder why they must sell?

Re: Zero Knowledge

I know I wouldn't want to be a customer where their founders corrupted funds and stole over $3 billion from their company; not to mention what terrible service they provide in my area hearing from other BBR users.
And yes I was wondering about this quote also
"and will be offering firewall, anti-virus and pop-up blocker applications from Zero Knowledge Systems to broadband users."
If their company knew any better they would know that this company doesn't really stop problems from happening; more like just telling you about it and doing nothing; here's the article: »Adelphia Security Suite

Ain't Heard the Fat Lady Sing

A sale was ONE of the options Adelphia has at the close of the auction.
They may choose to stay intact and continue on.
Frankly from all the negative responses from the cable cos. listed @ BBR earlier I doubt Adelphia will be offered what they feel they are worth.

Re: Ain't Heard the Fat Lady Sing

Adelphia just turned up the new cable plant here.
We were Teleprompter then Group W then Comcast, forgotten by comcast for all upgrades, then dumped to Adelphia.
In the past four months they have run fiber all over west palm beach, and I just switch to powerlink from bellsouth dsl.
speeds downstream are virtually identical 3meg, and powerlink is 256 up vs 384 for extrmedsl

not a biggie
$24per month for six months then $39.95

works good so far

Adelphia is not worth much, the kids that have the lemonade stand on the side of the street could buy the company for pennies on the glass. I'm still happy with my DSL from Darth Vader, but their cable services can bite my crotch because it's still not good enough.

Oh really? You should let U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Robert E. Gerber know that... he seems to think he's still handling the case:

Re: Adelphia Not Dead Yet

I see the advertisements all the time on cable about moving to satellite TV. If Adelphia continues to raise it's rates then I'm history.

Amen! And that they are wasting money on services and products that will never see the light of day is incredible dis-service to creditors and shareholders.

Been with Adelphia for almost a year...

And I have no complaints. Their service has been reliable . affordable, and fast. I am on the 4mb/512 package, and I feel its worth the price.

I would like to see Verizon Go up for sale

At least Adelphia broght Cable modems and 4/512 service to BFE WV. The only thing Verizon has invested in my area is high bills. My pots line doesn't work sometimes or hum and crackels. Verizon had brought CCTC in my area of WV. Coppper Crap to Curb, or in some areas CCTT Copper Crap to Trailer.......

edit for stupid typos.

Works great here.

Consistance 3mbs down and 250+kbs up Never goes down. In the entire time I've had adelphia cable. I think the internet has been down 2 times for between 10-20mins. Price is still comparable to compitiion here as well. And it's faster than anything else I can get around here aside from a fractional t1.

If you're pleased so far just wait and see how much better it'll be when a competent opperator buys your market!

Re: Adelphia ranks last in J.D. Power Survey

Their digital cable isn't so hot up here in Mendocino County in Northern California, but Powerlink rocks! I get 4500-5500 down and 550-600 up on a 24/7 365 basis, with virtually no down time, couldn't ask for better

Lanamama

@adelphia.net

Thanks for the link. I have to agree (that they suck). Latest bandwidth speeds between 32.2 and 75.1. Been going on like this for 6 weeks. They can't seem to figure it out. DSL is half price and speeds can definitely beat Adelphia's recent speeds. Adelphia lost me today to SBC and DirecTV.

Re: Adelphia ranks last in J.D. Power Survey

There's SOP much wrong with Adelphia other than JUST bandwidth... but it'll all be over very soon.
