Company provides Internet access to rural Vermont towns
(old news - 04:29PM Sunday Aug 22 2004)
tags: wireless · alternatives
Wireless Revolution plans to begin offering high speed Internet service to parts of rural Vermont (Plainfield and Marshfield) that have been beyond the limits of the traditional service providers. The Internet signal will be delivered to a wireless network by antennas that will not require tall towers. "Plainfield will have the service first, with the goal of giving most of the two towns access by the middle of next year, said Miles Silk, a founder of Wireless Revolution in Barre, Vermont. "We approached some of the bigger broadband providers, and none of them really wanted to do it, saying they couldn't justify extending service where they didn't have enough customer density," said Bryan Pfeiffer, a small business owner in Plainfield.

I found this on their site »www.vermontwireless.net/services/index.shtml

Not sure if the services or pricing will be similar in the new service areas. There is no mention of pricing in the Associated Press article.

Re: expensive ?

Thats not bad. For $2 less than what the local cable CO here is charging for the 1.5/256 service, ya could get 1.5/512.

May be nice but what about expansion?

I don't get it...I'm 5 miles from Saint Albans Vermont and can't get any high speed internet, but places like PLainfield and Marshfield can? So far wireless in Vermont, hasn't been expanding very much at all.

Newsworthy?

Geez..this sounds EXACTLY like other wireless ISP's all over the country such as myself have been doing for years. How in the world do I get free advertising like that? LOL
