| Re: 8mbps... You would be supprised at how many people qualify for those speeds. I know a few people that qualified for it but don't have the need or desire to go that fast. For what they use it for, 3/768 for $29.95 is enough, which is still incredible compared to verizon and cable | |

They can't install repeaters because they degrade the signal too much. The only way to get faster speeds to more people is for them to install remote DSLAMs in the field, which is expensive, etc.

Well for the price they have it @, its a lot more enticing than my cable connection right now:D
Also, I received a reply from them....seel below.....
Thank you for your interest in GWI-Broadband. Though we are always expanding our network, service in Massachusetts may be a bit of a wait. We spent the first 9 years serving only Maine, only recently the beginning of 2004) starting up in New Hampshire. If you would like, we can place you on a contact list for when we do, eventually, cover your area.
Again, thank you for your intestest in GWI-Broadband. We appreciate
your support.
Sincerely,
Jared Card

| I'm happy with them I've had GWI for about 3 months now and the speed is great. I signed up for their top tier and when I was having trouble getting over 5 megs they came down within a day to hook up a splitter.
I'm pretty sure all accounts come with 100 hours of remote dialup which came in handy this summer.

join:2004-02-12 | dsl - blah So when will dsl overcome the need for the co to be located 2 inches from your house to get good speeds? It might also be a good idea to be able to provide service to more than .00005% of an area too. That's when cable providers might be concerned.

| Re: dsl - blah With the new DSLAMs they have, you can be up to 2.5 miles away from the co and still get 3/768 service. This is new stuff from Lucent. People are accustomed to what cable providers tell them: DSL is crap and cable is far superior. That was the case in the past. GWI is the future. Dedicated connections starting off around 3mbps/768kbps for $29.95/month. That's $10/megabit. The 2nd tier, 5mbps/1mbps for $39.95 is $8/megabit. And 8mbps/1mbps is $49.95 is only $49.95, making it only $6.25/megabit. How many cable providers can do that? Yes, dsl has it's limitations, but for those who can get it, you can't go wrong. Also, once extended reach DSL becomes available (too expensive to be worth it right now), the coverage area will be able to better compete with cable. | |

| Fibre! Sorry to burst ur bubble who wanted fibre, but fibre is only a cable that processes info. faster than utp and stp and wireless. Fibre isnt its own service, its just a way to recieve info back and forth faster. it goes good with dsl. And i cant wait for VDSL(virtual dsl) gonna be sooo nice. | |
