Company working on suite of tools

Users in our Adelphia forum discuss a new suite of security services from Adelphia. While all of the prices and details aren't known yet, the company plans to offer a firewall, antivirus protection, spyware detection (not removal), pop-up blocker and parental controls. The suite was supposedly designed by Zero Knowledge Systems, and while it was supposed to be released last Wednesday, the launch date has apparently been pushed back.

Re: Well Well

ZKS is a provider of security and anonymity solutions, IIRC. So it makes sense for them to have a name like that. In anonymity, zero knowledge systems are exactly what you want, where nobody knows anything about anyone else using it.

Zero Knowledge

It's canadian company well known here, almost every candian ISP sells their service wich cost more than brand name products and offer less protection (AV is not scanning in/out emails!). Only positive thing is the full support you get for it from your ISP, I recommend it for 45+ people.

So Many Negative People!

Why not look at this move with a positive eye. it seems that nobody is actually talking about the potential of these services to the end user. Oh that's right, the company's name is "Zero Knowledge".......But they are trying to get established in an American market where Adelphia's demands and the service they will have to produce is probably going to have it's own variation (Good or Bad). Let's not forget that as long as the service is not out there we can't read the fine print about what it is that we are actually going to get for our money

ZK has tried to have a unique approach with network encryption but has been plagued with compatibility and ease-of-use issues - enough so that it's fair to question the efficacy of their products. That's not negative, that's smart - so if Adelphia is using ZK as the core of their security package I'm glad others are mentioning it here.
Client-side apps bundled with initial account configurations is a bad way to go about it, IMO: far too much client variation. ICARUS on the network with instant infected client disconnect plus auto-dial telephone number(s) on file is what I hope they move to eventually.

Here's the press release for this brandy spankin' new suite of ISP-specific tools: »www.zeroknowledge.com/en/news/pr···a_04.php

I think that it is GREAT

Like I said in the other thread about what Adelphia is trying to do. I think that it is a GREAT Idea. There are soooo many people out there that aren't protected at all!!! They think that it is too much trouble to scan for virus's, spyware, get all the latest patches, get behind a firewall. Then they get infected with a virus, then what do they do? They call up Adelphia and complain!! You might say "Well if they don't want to protect themselves, who cares.... it's not me" But it does affect ALL OF US. You have hundreds, or even thousands of PCs out there that are getting infected everyday, then being used to send the spyware, tons of SPAM, even Virus's all across the network. If this works like we should hope it will, then it will educate these new users that don't know what dangers broadband can bring if your not protected. You can't just buy a pc, plug it in, power it up and jump on the net anymore.... not that it was ever smart to do that, but things are MUCH different now then in the Dial up days. Hopefully we will see increase in speeds if all this malicious activity isn't being passed all along the servers. And that would save us, and Adelphia, allot of time, and money.... the money saved on their side could go toward more upgrades. We should all support this idea, and try to educate those who have no clue. Myself, I have individual utilities that I use for virus scanning, spyware, adware, firewall etc... This is a Great thing for the people who may think that it is too much trouble, or too hard to run all of these utilities. Cause they are all there in one Bundle. Good job Adelphia....

Huh?

I'm a little confused. I though Adelphia was getting ready to split itself up and sell itself off. Why are they spending money on R&D?
