Watch live TV without having to boot up your system
(old news - 01:01PM Sunday Jul 25 2004)
tags: hardware
Toshiba unveiled a new line of laptops this week optimized for video and audio playback that include a quick-start feature which gets the notebook ready for television viewing or CD play in just seconds. The Qosmio touts a four-in-one multimedia attack with integrated TV, audio, DVD recording, and typical PC functions. "Laptops in the Qosmio line include dedicated imaging chips that produce a clearer display than the usual notebook," said Toshiba, as well as other enhancements on both the video and audio sides, ranging from a second backlight in the display which produces a brighter picture, to a noise reduction filter in the audio system. Toshiba has included a player application that runs on Linux, which allows you to bypass booting the Windows operating system, so Qosmio can be started in five seconds for TV or DVD viewing, or for listening to CDs.

Hmmm now we are going to move from modding and overclocking our computer to modding and overclocking our kitchen appliances. Time to paint the fridge with flames, cut a window for plexi and install some Cold Cathode lights.

That is because people can't invent new stuff. They want to cross everything and it's mother. What else are they going to cross before they decide to do something new.

Even the cars with the tv's are really annoying now we got fridges with tv's what is next tv tables... so we can eat like a dog as we watch tv on the table top ?

Hoping, hoping, hop!

I'll tell you what, the day "they" make OS systems that boot up as quick as turning a TV on/off, that will be the real evolution/revolution.

Eh? My laptop wakes from sleep faster than my TV comes up with a picture. It's pretty much a long 1-count, as in "one mississippi..." and there it is. It's a Mac. They figured the "sleep" thing out quite some years ago.

Re: Hoping, hoping, hop!

I have an ibook running windows os x 10.2 and it takes about 5min to boot up, 4 of which is just that apple screen. All i have to say is macs are terrible. This os x is like a linux distro but with way too much overhead. I rather use linux than a mac anyday.

An iBook running Windows OS X? I don't believe that you know what you're talking about.

That's wild - you would think that the FM put out by the fridge motor would interfere somewhat with the use of the computer (if it has Internet, it has to have some sort of computer, right?), like it often will with "normal" computers if they are on the same circuit, or just too close to the fridge (would that be in the kitchen? ).

Try explaining to a builder why you need a water line AND a category 5e line run to you fridge. Think of the looks you'll get!
