1 edit | Funny It's funny in one sense but on the business owner side it probably not funny at all as he could be losing customers with the time wasted taking calls with disgruntled DSL users. Wow the idea occurred to me I hope the Business owner takes advantage of this opportunity in selling and shipping his goodies to each caller. Wow I would be milking this opportunity.

| . ... the bakery should put a voice menu and directing system on that line ...
... something like this:
1. press 1 - if you want cookies only 2. press 2 - if you want cookies with milk 3. ...and so on ... ... x. press x - if you are pissed off with SBC overcharging you, meanwhile cool off with our cookies with milk. you can order them directly right now on phone by pressing 2 or go to our web site (web site info here) for more choices

| Wrong Number You know this sort of thing happened to my company a few months back. Except instead of SBC DSL calls we got all the calls for that stupid American Idol show. Somehow the viewers got one of our fax lines for the "vote for this person" number. So I got like 5,000 calls all at once. I started picking up the line to see what was up, to find people on there, trying to vote.
Who ever was number 2 that night lost a lot of votes to our fax machine. True story, it was even on the local news. Guess there was a big scandal about the voting system anyway, then to have this happen.

| A few Clarifications
Just to clarify a couple of mis-statements:
1) Olde Colony Bakery isn't being contacted in error by SBC customers looking for DSL help. The SBC number listed in error belongs to SBC Shared Web Hosting, which handles web hosting, e-mail and other services for customers with their own domains.
2) SBC bills have been verified to show the correct number to reach that department.
3) The mis-listed number is showing up on customers credit card bills, which list the contact number in case of billing disputes.
While SBC is not in error in this matter, we are working with the owners of Olde Colony Bakery to find the problem and resolve is as quickly as possible. -- Put your spare CPU cycles to WORK! | This happened to my company as well. Only, it was due to many people seeing an 888 number and dialing the 800 version of the number.
Imagine their surprise when they tried to get support for their DSL and instead they got ... get this... a hotel whose target audience was homosexuals.
Turns out we had to set up a kind of landing pad for the calls headed to that number. Before the call would route to their number there was a mailbox it hit which prompted them if they wanted to call our company it told them the correct 888 number to call. Otherwise they would be told to hit zero to be connected to the hotel.
The owner, however, had a stipulation. The voice on the mailbox greeting had to be male and without a thick accent. So, I got drafted to read the mailbox message because the person whose job it was to get it fixed was female and I had plenty of theatre experience and had therefore been able to shed most of my ethnically (hispanic) and geographically based (Texas) accent.
So, it was a running joke for a while that I was the voice of gay hotel accommodations for this one city up north. -- Note : The statements made by myself are my own and not the opinions of my employer or of my coworkers. 15.81 GHz Crunching Power | The Ryan Foundation for MPS Children

| Crossed numbers are common My parents once started receiving calls for a local pharmacy. Calling my parents number ended up someplace completely different. My parents eventually took their phone off the hook to stop the pharmacy calls. What was bizarre is that my parents had just ordered DSL. Apparently Verizon messed up the install and somehow. It took a few days, but they got the numbers back to normal.
I still wonder how many people couldn't get their medication due to this screw up. --

Instead of telling them they had a wrong number he acted like he was the Barber shop a made reservations for hair cuts. He continued to receive them until he went to a cell phone. | We had a similar problem at our last apartment. We were always getting calls for this garbage company - their number was 1 digit off from ours (or was it 2 digits reversed? I don't recall.) Anyhow, at least once a week we'd get a call or a message about someone's dumpster not getting taken care of or stuff like that.
