Seventy-five registrars have apparently banded together to protest new rate hikes by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Number's (ICANN). In the past, rates were determined by the number of global top-level domains (gTLDs) a registrar wanted to sell from; ICANN instead switching to a flat fee structure regardless of size. ICANN says the idea is to have all registrars support the group's operation budget, a third of which goes toward supporting all registrars. However smaller registrars in less affluent countries are concerned they'll be forced out of business.
