Night vision goggled employee busts pirate

A 16-year-old boy was caught early Wednesday using a camcorder to record the first showing of "Spider-Man 2" at a Los Angeles theater, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has announced. The announcement comes a month after movie theaters began equipping employees with night vision goggles to scan patrons in the dimly-lit theaters for recording devices. The MPAA is offering a $500 reward for employees who catch individuals illegally recording movies, hoping to reduce the number of illegally traded films on-line. However many of the films that are hitting the web are digital copies stolen by insiders. Several new laws impose severe penalties on camcorder wielding thieves, while some companies are developing technology that makes it impossible to record projected films.
