| Re: 4Mbps About 5 or 6 months ago I received a message from comcast about my excessive use of IP numbers. They suggested that I either put all the stuff behind a router or get home networking. I opted for home networking simply for the extra speed. They didn't come out and do anything. Nothing changed except that my speed went up and they give me 5 ip's. I have been on the cable modem thing for a long time (since the beginning). When ALL of my buddies were getting killed by low DSL speed's and crappy DSL service my cable modem connection just worked perfect. It still is. Go comcast go !!UP that speed!!! Yaesumofo | |

| Re: 4Mbps Although I think its awesome that you're doing that, $65/month is too much in my book for 1.5/.4. If the prices were the same as the ones requiring a land line, then I'd seriously consider it.
At that price its cheaper for me to get a landline and get the cheapest metered service, which typically amounts to ~$15/month after taxes.
Is the $100 install as well as $100 modem required??

| Re: 4Mbps OK, Sorry to have taken this way OT, but to clarify.
We (LB DSL) have just launched an ADSL product that does NOT require voice service, we can provide this ANYwhere we currently offer ADSL (43 states).
Yes the cost is more then our line share products, because we have to pay the ILEC for the copper. Yes the install is more, because it MUST be a pro-install, since the line is brand new.
We have launched one speed right now 1.5/384 with faster speeds coming in late summer.
Here is some basic info »NEW ADSL option, without voice service
Now, lets get back on topic of Cable 4mbps -- Lightning Bolt Technologies

That is, as you may know, merely a capacity problem in your immediate neighborhood. Comcrap can & will deploy more capacity if users in your region complain. Start complaining. Thoughput depressions like the one you describe are often caused by a small number (2-10) of identifiable users (read: neighbors) who are file trading.

In a few areas that is true, but looking at the speed test archive it looks like they do a good job of offering 3/256 speeds to a great deal of customers. It does suck though if you are in one of the areas where the 3/256 cap is just a fantasy. -- Linkin Park Underground

| Comcast HN package. This is nothing new.The Comcast HN package has been around for along time. But in many areas they have had problems with upload speeds with their wireless modem/router gateway.
So they have decided to give the service with the regular modem, starting in some areas on the first of July.I don't know what areas they are right now but Comcast will be coming out with that word very soon.
I have put the prices in the thread. »comcast will allow hn speeds with a standard modem

| Comcast Sucks! At least once a month my connection is up and down. I'm tired of having them say unplug your modem. They have been out to my place at least 5 times in the past 3 months for the same issue. They know theres a problem cause they hooked my modem up to the tap and the connection was dropping. Then I hear the excuse that the line gets hot so that's what happen. If DSL were in my area I would be the first person to switch. | |

This is strange because the modem rental fee should be $3 but here is it $5. I called four times before upgrading as each person told me something different. 1-800-comcast says they need to have someone come out to install even if you own your router to be sure it is compatible but they are willing to waive the $100 fee but someone still must come out. 1-800-945-2288 is willing to just switch it on and that is what they did for me.
