Longhorn System Requirements A 5Ghz processor and 2 gigs of memory? Tuesday Mar 23 2004 11:13 EDT Some analysts hint that the next version of Windows will require a 5 GHz microprocessor, 2G of main memory, a PCI Express bus and a widescreen display - as well as an "always on" internet connection. This Federal Computer Week article really doesn't go into details about where they're pulling those estimates from, and frankly it's probably too early to predict - as some users in our software forum note. The OS in question, code-named Longhorn, isn't expected until 2006. Recent reports indicate Microsoft will likely release an interim OS "upgrade" dubbed Windows XP Reloaded to tide consumers over. |

Rationale for requirementsIt needs the "always on" connection because it will be pulling down OS patches non-stop, the 5GHz to do "continual self-healing", and the widescreen display for new types of distracting ads that cannot be avoided.
But don't worry because 2% of system cycles and network bandwidth will be reserved for user applications. | | | robnelleBlowing Kisses To You All Premium Member join:2001-12-05 Indianapolis, IN
