| I remember back in the days of @Home when there were no caps. Napster was gaining steam and I knew that applications like that were going to hurt the broadband industry. I knew that broadband was going to have to institute caps. There just wasn't enough bandwidth to go around.
Time and time again, I have put the blame on both parties for the caps and the disappearance of the "unlimited" internet.
The consumers are partially to blame. Instead of shutting down these hoggish P2P programs when they are done, they instead just let them run 24/7 sharing gigs of data and music. Instead of following the AUP, some users were even running FTP, WWW, and other servers.
The broadband corporations are also to blame. They should have stopped using the "unlimited" tag a long time ago. In fact, I haven't heard that used in a while so that is a good thing. Now they advertise it as "always on", which is much more accurate. Second, they should have been cutting all these people off their network that don't follow the TOS. However, the bottom line speaks louder I suppose.

BS thats a fookin lie I'll be damn. Where is My 3mbps DL and trial 512kbps up. Oh yeah they for got one thing.
BRIGHTHOUSE NETWORKS DOES NOT OFFER THIS. I wish they were allot more clear on this because I have heard about 3mbps DL for months ahead while they were flabergasting about it. Then all the sudden a message was relayed that all TW customers would be enabled for it yet brighthouse networks was not about to do that.
Iwish they would be clear about this crap just like how clear they are with no mention of CAPS.

| Re: Poor Comcast Users I haven't run into the limit, but this is funny because I grilled (Earthlink Cable via Time Warner) them extensively about whether there was an upper limit when they moved me from DSL. I told them they I had VOIP coming in and out and would be using the connection for commercial purposes. They said no problem. Perhaps I should be confirming this in writing. | |

Perhaps you should.....something as important as your business relying on VOIP through the TW network, should be based on more than verbal promises.
It wouldn't take much for them to renig on your verbal arrangement and tell you one day that your service was terminated for excessive bandwidth usage against their TOS and then you'd be SOL if you had nothing in writing to back you up....

Of course TW doesnt decide to call you a pig and take 85% of your upload bandwidth, their idea of whats abuse is rather restrictive -- You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Bandwidth

| Re: 15 gigs??? 40gigs??? Well I do a lot of online gaming, and I also have napster. Throw in some pretty heavy web browsing, and it doesn't take me long to download a few gigs of data in a short amount of time. With a high speed connection it doesn't take very long at all. And most of these people here have connections a lot better than mine. | |

| Re: 15 gigs??? 40gigs??? I do a lot of online gaming too, plus I have eMule running 24/7. eMule's stats say I've transferred 75 GB in 3 months, but that's just with eMule. I've probably transferred twice that with online gaming, web browsing, other P2P apps, etc. I'm certain I've exceeded the 15 GB limit on multiple occassions, but no nasty letters or emails yet. -- This lead apron will protect me from the gravity. | |

Have you even counted the amount of data that comes down in service packs?
I did a clean install of Windows 2000 (in before all the "well, you got a broken piece of software, don't blame me you have to download service packs" whiners.) Just to get everything up to snuff (not even downloading Media player 9.0) and only 2 driver files, was close to 500MB alone! This is just for a clean install! Service packs of 30-40MB each, security patches galore. The driver files were no more than 5MB!
It isn't all P2P people.

| Brighthouse vs Time Warner I heard rumblings about the 3/512 upgrade so I called Brighthouse locally (central Florida). The guy I spoke with told me that it's a "coming in the future" thing and that the modems will get a bin push to upgrade the firmware at some point followed by a notification to the subscriber witht the good news.
HOPEFULLY THIS IS NOT A LIE!!!

That means that your dl averages about 1mbit or 120k/sec, 10gb a day = 300 gb a month btw... me think that is impossible for you to keep leeching without any content on the internet to do so... i say 100-120gb a month is about what most people use since their are time where you internet connection becomes idle
