Spam forum sharpens their spears
(old news - 11:16AM Wednesday Jul 16 2003)
tags: spam
When a spammer wandered into our Stopping Spam forum last week and began hawking his wares, the ensuing chaos was nothing if not entertaining. Acting under their own petrol and not officially endorsed by Broadband Reports in any way, users took it upon themselves to put to rest the activities of a user pitching an antispam product in their forum. The resulting fifty-four page thread makes for an interesting chase. The resulting mess was linked to Slashdot on Monday. Some passers by have been supportive of their efforts, some think it futile, and others wonder if the effort isn't perhaps a touch over-zealous. Many of the participants have now begun plans for their own unaffiliated website dedicated to tracking down and stopping spammers.

Heh. Yeah, that's why the server was so slow the last few days. It's getting back to normal now, though.

This joker spammed the big spam thread with this same thing as well. mjksoft.com is looking to be a commercial spammer with his activity.

Re: Trace spammers!

Someone wondered whether Antispamcard's spammed anti-spam
software was in fact a stealth address book harvesting
system disguised as a spam filtering tool? Like a wolf in
sheep's clothing. Sounds as though Mjksoft is perhaps
more of the same ilk.

What is it with these dense spammers? Rule #3 in effect? I mean, how stupid is spamming a thread about a massive spammer hunt?

Overly blatent

Some people just get way too overconfident that they are untouchable. Once they cross that line, thats when they find out they aren't. This guy is a prime example of that.

Cute. That would depend on how you define spam. Typically it references things of a commercial nature.

Yes, it was spam

He was told to mind his manners yesterday in the forum, not that anyone would have taken him seriously.

Hawking anti-spam software from a China-Netcom IP address is like wolves trying to sell farmers intrusion alarms for chicken coops.

How to get back at spammer

I found an easy way to get back at spammer.

Look through your list of spam message, if one of them is a lottery click on it. Chance of that lottery also request 5 or 10 addition email address. Enter the lottery and fill the 10 friends and family email address with 10 other spammer address...let the spammer get spam

The problem is that spammers usually don't like to leave a trail to go back to...so in the end you have just wasted more of your time on spam...

They can because they can.

My 'o' My this guy has more alias than Santa Clause.

Thats his Clause..

I always liked the interesting idea of having a shared universal key at the start of an email header. That way If someone spams the thing it's like they are breaking a smartcard for direct tv. "Hacking your antispam filters."

"habitOS" in the header always filters into inbox. everything without habitos is trashed. This is the personal area anyone wanting a reply or response from a person. NO AUTOMATED MESSAGES. Servers that transmit must have time stamped signatures.

"AtomAT" in the header always filters into inbox. This is the personal area for automated response messages. You must have physicaly sent a message to this address before it can send you e-mail. The message header must be validated and verified before it can be sent through this.

"ADVat" in the header always filters to where you want it. if you don't want it it's automaticly trashed. The message header must be validated and verified before it can be sent through this.

"TechSH" in the header always filters to where you want it. If you don't want it it's automaticly trashed. Use for tech support. The message header must be validated and verified before it can be sent through this.

"NewsGP" in the header always filters to where you want it. if you don't want it it's automaticly trashed. News is for e-mail you sign up for "new groups" The message header must be validated and verified before it can be sent through this.

There is no law to put these guys out of business they think they are untouchible. If we had a law like the satalite industy has where if they attempt to gain unatherised access then by breaking codes to bypass protective measure then access is a illigal.

Making a new national filter shared key rule set (anti-spam) based would make anyone who uses those shared keys outside of their discriptions to solicite spam as breaking laws. Punishment by blacklisting and or fines.
