| Re: I wish You don't want Verizon. Their customer service is useless. If you're lucky enough to get the service running, it's fine. But don't ever try to change anything or move your account. They'll give you the run-around like crazy, tell you lie after lie, then stall and hope you go somewhere else. They are not interested in your business. They tell you to wait six days for your old line to clear, then say you have to wait 12 more days while they "prep" your new line, then tell you to wait 3 days after that to call them, then say if you're not connected by then, call them back after another 8 days. If not connected by then, well, start the process over again. That's what happened to me after being told that moving my account to a new line would be "no problem at all." After a week of waiting, then hours on the phone, they finally and gleefully cancelled my account and told me to go somewhere else. | |

I'm moving in a month and called about switching the line, I was also told it would take 4 days for the line to clear, then 4 more days to prep the new line. Verizonvictim is correct for the most part.

I found tech support to be absolutely useless in troubleshooting constant latency spikes of 250-300ms to the first hop; they refused to even look into it unless I provided extensive documentation. | You don't want Verizon DSL because their billing dept. is a joke..I've been fighting with them for over a year to correct charges that appear on my bill suddenly and everytime they state they've corrected it even gave me a confirmation # that it's been corrected etc. When i get my next bill still those charges appear. If i could have switched service i would have along time ago but i can only get Verizon DSL where i am now but luckily i'm moving and the new place has Comcast so well give them a try.

Then threaten to issue a complaint with the PUC (Public Utility Commission) of your state if no action is taken within 30 days. If Verizon gets too many complaints against them the PUC will start fining them, so they have quickly corrected any problem I had after doing this. [text was edited by author 2003-05-05 18:20:35]

| It's finally good... It's finally good to see the benefits of competition.
I have always wanted the 1.5 down, but going from 39.99/mo to 59.99/mo, I couldn't justify the increase for the jump in bandwidth.
Now I can, especially since the price is now a decrease. And even if they claim I'm too far away to get the full 1.5, I will save $5 a month and that will be like 1-1/2 months free, compared to current pricing.
For those that are wondering, I was an early adopter when the price was 39.99, then it went up to 49.99, so I hoped I wouldn't get my price raised, and said nothing in hopes they wouldn't notice.
Yea Verizon! Now just waiting on the line check!

In the meantime, cable companies have been expanding high speed service in areas that DSL providers won't touch. If Verizon doesn't get with the program here, then they will go the way of AOL in very short order, especially if cable companies can provide a full featured service package containing cheap, reliable phone service and high speed internet access. People in my area (and quite a few others) have been dumped their second phone lines in droves once cable modems became available. If cable companies continue to expand into telecom the way they have been, then its lights out for the phone companies. -- Pissed off at traitorous, ungrateful musicians? Don't just boycott them! I'm not shedding any tears for Verizon either. I dropped my second phone line the same day I got a cable modem. When the Verizon rep asked why, I told her very plainly it was because I couldn't get DSL and I had no need for second line anymore because of the cable modem. Verizon could have come out ahead financially (as the cost of the DSL more than outweighs the loss of the cost of the second phone line) if they had bothered to upgrade service... but oh well. -- Pissed off at traitorous, ungrateful musicians? | Yup, here in Worcester, Ma only about half the city is elgible for DSL. Earlier today I called and asked if they have any plans to upgrade the rest of the city and make it in reach of DSL (2 years ago I was told Verizon was planning on making DSL availabe to 90% of their customers within 2 years), they replied there are no plans for any sort of expansion of the service. The only way this helps me is if Charter feels they need to be competitive with Verizon and drop the price from their outragous $59.95 for 1500/128.

| Verizon re-sellers are also upgrading
As I was reading this thread I decided to check my DSL provider (AceDSL) who is re-selling Verizon's lines and guess what... They are now offering as their base package Live Plus which is $49.95 @ 1600/128 incl a static IP adr to customers that are less than 12000 feet from the CO. I called them up and sure enough ... no problem, they say. I am currently paying the same so I do not get the price break, but for me it is totally worth it. So if you are using a Verizon re-seller call them up and see what they say.

| Pilosoft DSL (my company) is providing it for 39.95 with pass-through taxes. The end result is anywhere from 43$ to 47$ depending on your local area.
We are considering this an experiment in deviation from a 'flat-rate' pricing structure that most Verizon DSL resellers seem to employ. It seems hardly fair that ISP's profit margin on the same 49.95$ account in NY is 30% less than on the same account in NJ.
Re: 384k up: Verizon isn't giving their 34.95$ customers that speed.

Anyway we all have nice stable broadband from SBC down here in Texas. SBC does however lock you into a years contract @ $49.95 for one year and drop the price.
But on the Bush deal yeah President Bush is doing a good job with all he has to put up with and the financial mess left over from the booming last administration this economy started in 1998. Anyway the economics behind it are just a little to hard for many folks to understand.

| VIVA Verizon I had a hard time with some of the verizon csr's. But....It is the untrained employees that give the company a bad name, not the employee but the manager to let them treat a customer the way that they do. I had the 1.5mps for a year. My girlfriend and I wanted to part and so we canceled her phone and I called to get my number and 1.5mps back. Well...the first kid was prolly playing his gameboy because he said that verizon didnt offer it in my area! haha after almost passing out from not breathing i called right back, I received the run around for about a week because i was on a "new" line.WTF! Finally I got ahold of a GOOD csr and tried to be as kind as I could with her. She helped me get back online with 768 for 34.95 a month. This took a month to do. I called tech support so they could build a dialer for me with winXP, the first girl was very pissy and did not like it when i told her that i was not seeing the screens she was describing and I ended the call because she was stressing me out. Called right back and a nice guy named chris got me connected within 4minutes. I told him about the girl and he just apoligized for her and basically snorted at me for complaining.hehe The CSR's are not tech's by any means. They are the first tier trouble shooters, and are poorly trained. Over the past 6 months though Ive been getting allot of really good good customer support from verizon as I think all those snooty kids are back in beer school. So if you need to call make sure its during school hours.haha

| Holidays free calls no more
Hello - I joined verizon Jul 03 and was very happy with it. I had to call Canada for free on weekends, nights and holidays. Two years later, May 05, I renewed my contract and found out that verizon dropped calling Canada for free as i mentioned above. Two month later, Jul 05, I found out that verizon will no longer will have the holidays for free. I called customer service and complained, there answer to me it is not part of the contract. So I asked them, in your contract, verizon can change anything they want raising prices, changes in the plans and if you want to renew your old plan, it does not exist anymore and you have to pick another plan. They always claim that they don't raise prices, but that is not true, when you cut services you had for free and later you pay for it, that's in a way is raising the cost.
I am really disappointed at verizon, they are after making more $$$$ than satisfying their customers. Another thing I heard when i call them, "It is not in the contract you signed" It sound like when you sign, they got you, and that is not a good feeling.
Take care,

| Verizon DSL Service and Account I.D.
I have had Verizon DSL service for almost six years now. Never had any real problems with it. That is until I recently switched my DSL service to my home phone line from a former business phone line in my home. Its been a frustrating nightmare ever since. I have spent a total of about six hours on the phone over the last few of days. My problem is after they notified me by email the DSL switch had been made (and it was)they turned right around seven hours later and notified me they had received notice to terminate my DSL service on that very same line and they were sorry to see me go. To top it off two night ago I signed in with my account I.D. and was told I had terminated my account. Today after two hours on the phone with an assurance they may be able to solve the problem, I was disconnected. I have spent well over 90% of my time on hold and been switched to countless people. No resolution. One more try tomorrow. That's it.
