I don't think they will be getting the new speed(s) though, it might be a whole contract thing on DSLX's end to figure out. Great if they can though. | |

I don't want them to dig up my yard and blow up an electric box. I don't want a FiOS installer riding in the back seat of my car trying to sell me FiOS. I'm happy with Comcast. | Re: just signed-up Yes, call in. We were upgraded when the tiers changed, took 3 days to take effect, no price change for us that time, we'll see about this time.
So far the information points out that the increased price is trying to cover deployment costs in areas like NYC and other more difficult to work in markets where the infrastructure is either a mess or needs build up to support the fiber rollout. Also, vz seems to prefer billing newly acquired people more to cover these costs, vs the tried and true customers that they've had for a while. We have had fios for a few years now so they seem to treat us as valuable assets in this battlezone market.

But for us, these prices are rather high, and I don't care how you try to manipulate the numbers (because what I'm about to say is probably going to get me attacked with: space, per capita, bla-bla-bla), U.S. Broadband prices are overpriced.
Japan: 100/100 for $33.95. Uncapped. Unshaped.
South Korea (which coincidentally topped the broadband penetration listing): 100/100 for roughly $25 (As of '04). Unshaped. All you can eat. And potentially looking at 1/1GBPS in 2012.
USA (20th in broadband penetration (here come the hecklers)): ???/??? for prices averaging $60 ranging from 768/128 to 101/?? (can't remember cablevisions asynchronus rate), and an average availability of 1 isp per area. 2 if you're lucky.

now if we look at it by metropolitian it's Tokyo 1, Seoul 2, and New York 4.
yet of those cities ny is the only that doesn't have those speeds.
and ny is just as expensive to live in as those cities.
for the usa ny has good speeds, even then it's only some markets. as manhattan doesn't have cablevision, nor does queens they have time warner.
bk and the bronx have both cablevison and some areas have fios.
now even if when all of nyc is wired we still won't have the bandwidth of tokyo or seoul.
to be fair cablevision has a 100/15 tier, it's a nice start but still not up to par in japan and korea. | |

The technology is what it is and there's no getting around it and cable is an inferior technology no matter what outlandish claim the cablecos are making on a given day.
Had them all, had DSL, had Comcast cable have FIOS and FIOS beats them hands down in every way and by big margins. | |

I was under that same false impression and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Comcast really got their act together. FIOS (which is still not available in the nation's capital except for a single condo building) is late to the party.

It's only a matter of time as ALL of them are already FIOS customers the minute it becomes available.

Actually I don't have PowerBoost provisioned on my speed tier (I am only paying $25 a month). Speed stays consistent the entire time and does not drop off. So yes I really am getting above my tier and not with PowerBoost.
This is typical for Comcast here in DC. It may be different in other areas. I have Comcast Business at work and it also does not appear to use PowerBoost. In fact I was told that we are getting Docsis 3 for the same price and that the connection will go as fast as the modem will currently go (around 33Mbps down, 4Mbps up). Comcast told me if I wanted faster than that all I would have to do is upgrade to a newer modem.
So to put it in another way, I get this speed at work and and home ALL THE TIME.
FIOS? It won't be rolled out here until 2014. So I think that puts FIOS speed at 0. | |

I called them this morning for the new package and it is more expensive to upgrade is what dude said. He went over the prices and for me to upgrade to their 25/15pkg (which I currently have 20/5) it would cost me like another $30/month. It's like screw that, I mean I would like to the 15 up, but not at that cost. I don't do torrents or anything like that, so the 20/5 is good enough for me!
But it is nice because I do get my 20down & 5up for sure!
GOD BLESS Verizon FiOS !!
P.S. The upgrade I think should be impletemented automatically to existing customers for the same price. This is the 3rd change in service (that I can remember) since FiOS has came out with. | |

I'm stuck with Sprint Mobile Broadband, and the only way I can get that reliably is with a giant lightning-rod-of-an-antenna plastered to the top of my roof And I pay $60 a month for it, at that. I'd go for their highest tier considering it's not much more or less than I paid for HughesNet a couple of months ago, $100 a month.
You know, speaking of slow internet, I've never seen speeds above 1.0 megabits (in person, I mean. Hell, I've watched a video of a Speakeasy speed test on FiOS and drooled at the thought...) Even at our local schools, you only download at about .5 megabits. It's pretty sad around here. | |

Well, I called June 19, on the next to last day of the promotion, to order the triple play. The representative said sorry, FiOS isn't available in your area. I told him that yes it is- my next door neighbor has the FiOS "triple play". He told me that it would take 5 (!) days to get back to me to confirm FiOS' availability at my address.
Today was the fifth day... he called me back and said that I was right: FiOS is indeed available on my block (well, duh!). He said Verizon had my address/phone number incorrectly coded in the database, and it was incorrectly tagged as "FiOS not yet available." He said that the technicians could be out as soon as tomorrow!
But here's the kicker: because Verizon didn't fix their database error until today (5 days AFTER I called and 4 days AFTER the end of the promotion), he said that I was NOT eligible for the 2-yr $89.99/mo w/$150 back promotion!!! Instead he apologized (very lukewarmly) and offered me instead $109.99/mo for 1 yr with no cash back and a Compaq netbook which I neither need nor want.
I spoke to two different sets of "managers", and neither one would budge off their positions. Everybody agrees that I called before the promotion ended, that their database was in error, but they won't honor the promotion!!!
Well, Verizon has lost me as a customer... I'm so ticked off now that not only are they not getting my money for video or Internet, but I'm now going to pull my voice service from them as well and switch 100% to Comcast. The co-workers I told this story to today who were on the fence about switching to FiOS from Comcast and Cablevision are now probably going to sit tight and not switch to FiOS.
There's no way I could ever give Verizon my business again! | |

They had a cash back deal for service. The rep. gave me pretty much the exact same "coded in the database" wrong excuse exactly one day after the promotion ended. No promotion, service was suddenly available. | |

And don't wait till the last minute to order. That isn't Verizon's fault.
I assume you tried to order online but it wouldn't take the order?
If the database did indeed had an error, and it was fixed then just sit back and wait for the next promotion.
The Internet uses the same database as Verizon uses. So you should have ordered online and checked online availability.
I wouldn't have had an issue like that since my address is correct in the system, I can't comment on your own address however.

These aren't upgrades. It's just a way to force you to pay for more for FIOS. Since they no longer offer 5 meg service anymore. All of a sudden Verizon thinks everyone is going to spend $15-20 more every month for internet in this bad economy. Doesn't make sense to me. People will jump back to cable faster than they jumped to FIOS. See ya. | |

Verizon Announces New FiOS Tiers, Promotions
For a small bump in internet speed and a couple more HD channels, my triple play bundle would go up by $25 a month. In this economy, I don't think so. Thanks for nothing Verizon!
