| I completely agree. I remember when I had my first ISP. It was @Home and I had 4mbps down and 3mbps. That was fun, but I realize it had to be insanely expensive for them to provide that. I could see the people in my area ruining it too because so many of the people I knew were running either warez or IRC Fserves, just bleeding money from @Home. Now-a-days these people would be using P2P apps.
But, when they dropped it down to 128kbps I was amazed at how skimpy they were being. And, to my horror almost all the providers copied each other with this. I couldn't believe the upgrade from "narrowband" of 28.8kbps went up only to 128kbps on "broadband". That was only a change of 4.4 times. This is even less with today's v92 modems where they now upload much faster, up to 48kbps. This means that broadband is only 2.7 times faster for the upstream now when compared to dialup. When I am uploading files to my website, or sending a picture to someone, or sending a large email I should not have to wait and wait while my connection is otherwise useless. That's not broad, I am still sucking through a straw.
Personally I would have preferred them to traffic shape the bandwidth of P2P and such apps so people couldn't bleed the bandwidth of the network, and then in return supply us with great upstream limits. A better limit would be between 384kbps and 1mbps upstream, with applied traffic shaping for upstream usage on such things as P2P apps. This way you could use the upstream bandwidth when you actually need it, the P2P traffic would never flood the network costing the company more profit than they care to lose, and the customers would be happier too. | |

I want more upload speed, I dont use Filesharing.
I want lower rates, Comcasts "discounts" are a joke and should be the subject of a class action for illegal tying.
I want better security, They have none according to how many times I get scanned by trojans every day.
Ambiguous data caps need to be cleared up, not being clear about when a user hits the ceiling is a sneaky way to jack up prices for anyone they feel should pay more.
I really dont care about what content they have to offer at the moment, I find my own stuff just fine.
Of course downstream being faster is a plus, but I rarely need faster then what I get now. Give me more upstream and I'll be happier. | |

i would be happy to pay $80-$100 per month for a 1.5m/768k connection. But those dont exist. I can't get DSL and anything else is so rediculously expensive. The packages available from TW business class is over $200 per month for that kind of service. I dont have that kind of cash.
So yah, I voted for more affordable upload speeds. | |

2.5 mbps downstream
and 768kbps up stream
I run a pair of web servers on it and e-mail
and my own ftp for the web stuff
it costs me $90 a month
the reliability is pretty good I have had maybe a hour of down time in the last year | |

| New content and services?!!!! I'm glad that this is only at 1% of the voting total. "New content and services" is the biggest ISP scam ever. Portals schmortals. There are already enough places to find crap on the web, I don't need an ISP telling me what a great thing I'm getting, even though I can get it with any ISP because something similar is already available elsewhere. STOP TRYING TO PLAY US ISPS.
I also wish I could have voted for both better upload speeds and lower prices. I chose lower prices, just because I don't NEED more upload, I want it. With the economy being the way it is, I actually do NEED some more dough.
My 2 cents.

| Better Upload I voted for better upload speed. I have had Earthlink DSL on two phone numbers over the past three years. Same price, but at my old place, I got 1500/384. Here, my upload is capped at 192. I don't do filesharing, but I'd love to be able to send big attachments back to my office quicker than I can.
How about better equipment? I'm still using my old SpeedStream 5260 because it works better in my home network than the piece of junk "router" they sent me when I moved three months ago. Seems like the equipment is getting worse.

| Faster upload of course and... None of those stupid ToSes that ban servers. You give people an always on connection, let them use it. There is no good* reason to prevent people from running low traffic web servers, ftp servers or mail servers.
*-money is a poor reason.
