It is retained for the value of any residual information contained in it. family of standardsHDSL, SDSL, ADSL, VDSL comprise the main DSL standards. Strictly speaking, the acronym DSL is actually an early low speed standard, and the 4 letter DSL acronyms are the standards in use today, but DSL has become a blanket term for all these technologies. Recently, the internation standards union settled on one consumer standard for DSL, called G.lite, also known as ADSL lite.
VDSLVDSL offers the highest speeds, but is only in limited commercial use. For short distances, 1000 to 4500 feet, it promises data rates of up to 50mbps. VDSL had been previous called VASDL or BDSL or even ADSL. In June 1995, VDSL became the official title of this standard.
As of early 2000, VDSL has appeared in some US-West areas, for example, Gilbert and central Phoenix.. those lucky subscribers report great service, highly integrated -- TV, phone, internet all down one short line from a local fibre connection.
