Problems with tuning HD cable channels

Due to a remote control issue, we had to use the Auto Program function on our TV today so that we could re scan our available channels. We have a Sony Model KDL-46v4100 with a QAM tuner. We have had this set for over two months using WOW service at its present location. After the Auto Program ran all of our local HD channels moved from their previous locations of 200-206 to various spots within the tuner. For example, NBCHD which used to be at channel 203 is now found at channel 102.203. Same with ABCHD. Formally at channel 200, it is now found at channel 93.200. This continues for all HD channels with numbers ranging from 93.200 to 117.202. This all started happening with this TV today. For the previous two plus months all of our HD channels were located 200-206. Now, our less expensive smaller TV in the basement still receives all HD channels at the 200-206 setting. As you can imagine, typing in channel 200 for ABCHD is much easier than typing in channel 93.200! To further complicate things, we still receive PBSHD at channel 205 on the Sony. It is the only channel that stayed the same after we had to hit Auto Program.

A funny story that a WOW tech told me

When the WOW tech was here today he was telling us stories about installs when he worked for another company and he said he went to this one ladies house who was having problems with her service. Well, it turns out the previous installer ran a cable line through her kitchen. The cable line went up and around the trim in the kitchen and then from there it ran straight across the kitchen to the other room hanging down from the ceiling. He said the lady was using the cable line as a laundry line. lol! I thought that was extremely funny. He even asked her how long the cable line was like that and she told him 2 years.

Email being blocked?

I'm a brand-new WOW customer. Does WOW block certain email without notifying you or putting it in a junk folder or something? Most of my email is coming through normally, but some semi-junk mail that I usually get (for example, ads from buy.com) does not seem to be there.

Then another strange thing: I tried to test my email by sending from another account that I have, and it kept getting bounced back saying it had been "refused" by the server. I made a couple of formatting changes in the test message that I was sending (HTML format), and then the message went through.

So is there a way to control WOW's spam behavior? On Comcast I could choose to turn off their spam filter altogether, which I had to do since it had too many false hits. I do my mail reception via POP3.

New Comcast => WOW customer

I've been with Comcast (Internet only) since they first offered the service several years ago, and had no complaints except that the price kept creeping up. We are happy with DirecTV, so were not getting any deals for the Internet service by itself. At the same time, the cost of our landline phone keeps going up, so we started looking for an Internet/Phone bundle, and WOW had the best pricing by far.

The switchover was made yesterday and couldn't have gone smoother. All the guy had to do was run his cable to the side of our house and then connect to the same lead-in that we've been using for Comcast. Go upstairs, remove my old Linksys modem, install WOW's modem, connect the Ethernet cable, phone wire to an existing wall jack, and everything worked!

My only question here is whether there is a cable modem available that I can buy instead of paying the monthly rental. The tech said that Linksys makes one, but I don't see anything on their site that supports the phone. Is anything out there yet?

Phone install = Success!

A tech came out to install the WOW phone today. He was a very cool guy and knew his stuff. He is actually the lead tech for WOW out of Naperville. Since we don't have WOW cable TV anymore, we asked him to look at our splitters that we were using when we had the TV service and he was really shocked to see all the splitters. He didn't understand how a WOW tech could install a service like that and said that there is a possibility the FCC could have scanned it and shut off our cable if it was giving off the wrong frequencies or whatever. I forget exactly what he said, but I thought it was interesting. There was about 4 different splitters and an amp and all we had was 3 TV's and a cable modem. He simply took away the unnecessary splitters for us.

The phone works great. I did a speed test while I was on the phone and there was no slow down or anything. The voice seems to be clear on the phone as well with no other problems. I know people that have VOIP service and are disappointed by it because it is inconsistent, but WOW phone seems to be very good and many of you said that as well.
