How to Detect & Log wireless Dropping?

I have a 614+ Router and DWL 520+ Wireless Adapter. The distance between them is literally 60-65 feet TOPS.

Anyway, long story short, is there a piece of software that will LOG or alert me of a Wireless Connection Drop on the wireless computer?

Something I could either look at the log later or alert me or both?

I will be using the wired computer btw,.

many thanks

EDIT The wireless card is a DWL 520+

Thanks

Distance from router to antenna??

I always get valued comments from this site.
Any comments about max distance from router to outdoor antenna? My planned cable modem is 40 feet from the best location for outdoor antenna.
Should I buy 40 foot antenna cable or should I figure out how to locate the router closer, ie outdoors, to the antenna and use 40 foot ethernet cable? Thanks.

N vs G vs Wired test

Well, I mentioned in another thread I was looking for some N routers that can work in client mode. Unable to find any locally I picked up a router to test with my laptop.

I did some tests but the only N client I have is the laptop at the moment. The router was wired to the PC and a 300MB file was transferred. The G router is a WRT54G v4 with 5 dBi antennas. The N router is a D-Link DIR-655.

So roughly I got transferring the file:

G Near 3MB/s (100%), Far 1.4MB/s (60%)
N Near 9.5MB/s (100%), Far 5.7MB/s (70%)
Wired 30MB/s

Are these typical results?

Connecting Blu Ray Player to Internet

I am looking to purchase a Blu Ray player with Profile 2.0 support. The issue I have is how I can connect it to the Internet. It will be used in the family room where I don't have a network jack available close by. Therefore, I either have to run a long cable over into my kitchen area where I have an AP / router that I could plug into or go with some sort of wireless solution. While the former is straightforward enough, I'd rather not run a long cable across the wall and over. Thus, could I go with some sort of wireless solution?

The player I'm looking at (Sony) has a USB port but that will be needed for a flash stick / BD Live support. Even if it was available, I don't think a wireless adapter would work there anyhow. The only other option that comes to mind is purchasing another AP and connecting from there into the Blu Ray player and then setting up a bridge over to the kitchen area AP. Is this feasible? If so, is it simple enough to setup the bridge as I haven't set one up before? As an aside, all my current AP's are Linksys brand running DD-WRT.

Need some help choosing router/upgrade solution for range.

I need some help and ideas, we need wifi about 530ft/600ft. east of the main building, the router wont be in the middle but at the very west of the building. What is a good router and antenna, and the wireless card will be a lot of mixes of random cards mainly wireless G/N some B. What are the choices, i want the price range no more than 300 USD. it would be nice if i could spend less than that. Also speed doesn't matter. As long as range is good and stable.

Right now im running on a linksys wireless G with a 7db antenna gain and another mysterious black wire that goes to the unknown (haven't checked yet), lol, had no clue who set it up but its mounted on the wall and seems quite well done, if i could somehow extend the range with something that would be great. I will have to get a laptop out there with wireless b/g/n and do some testing on how far the signal reaches though...

Thanks!

7318 usg edimax usb dongle... need suggestions

Hey, i have this dongle, and it has deattachable antenna, so i am wondering which new antenna should i get. Is it the bigger/stronger the better or not really? I know there are some omni 9dbi, also 7dbi or 5 dbi ones. Also rubber duck ones.
I need this just to pick a stronger, better signal.

Thanks

edit: is this one fine? http://www.pacificgeek.com/product.asp?ID=98581&C=212&S=1335

Two wireless routers and a wireless repeater.

Look I have the following Linksys devices:

WRT54GL (modded with Tomato)
WRT54G2 (no modding these babies yet, so default firmware)
WAP54G (default firmware)

The WAP is hard-wired to the Tomato router and broadcasting my wireless network alongside the Tomato router. I want to network the unmodded G2 router to my existing network without using any physical wiring, basically using just the wireless signal. Is this possible?

Whenever I try this I cannot get a connection as the unmodded G2 router is expecting to find a WAN connection, of which it will never find. How can I get around this and still be able to connect this router to my network?

Compaq/HP NC6000 wireless diagnostic?

I'm trying to help a friend who works from home on an XP laptop that is administered by an IT group.

The laptop was working normally until last week. Now the integrated wireless/nic connection no longer works.

Is there anyway to definitely check whether the nic is working correctly - as opposed to being a software problem?

She is not the admin on the machine, but could setup the connection previously. Now the service seems to fail as soon as it is configured.

Wireless N equals 1/10 the download speed- Linksys WRT310N

I have a Linksys WRT310N with the newest firmware. My download speed over the internet is roughly five times faster in G mode, compared to N mode. Here is the specifics.

In N mode, up and downloading over my network is twice as fast as in G mode. That makes sense. it connects at 130 Mbps in N, and 54 Mbps in G mode.

Connecting to the internet through a wired connection i see a download speed around 8000 kb/s and upload 4000 kb/s (comcast).

Hooked through using wireless G I get 6000 kb/s and upload 3000 kb/s.

Using wireless N i see 600 kb/s and upload 3000 kb/s.

Yeah, that's correct. No typo. My download speed in N mode is 1/10 of the G mode download speed.

Signal quality is great. I get no reported drop outs or errors. It does not matter if the laptop is five feet or fifty feet away; i get the same results.

I've messed with all the settings in my network adapter on my laptop. I've changed all the settings in my router. Nothing seems to change it.

Anyone have any ideas?

Will the USB port on WRT350N work with DD-WRT firmware?

I am planning on purchasing the Linksys WRT350N router mainly for it's Gigabit capability and the USB storage device connection capability.
Now once I get it I am planning on re-flashing the device with the latest DD-wrt firmware, however does the DD-WRT firmware support the USB storage capability of that router or will I be forced to employ the Linksys firmware?
