Please review the below diagram for my network. The problem is that i want to open a port on my router for bit torrent client however I cannot.
I don't know much about routing however i followed guides on internet by setting static ip's etc but it is not working for me.

Here are Screenshots of my modem and router settings. Click the picture and then click full screen at the bottom to see the zoom in picture.:

Low Throughput of the Added AP?

I was told the throughput of an 11g router is only about 1/3 of the 100Mb CAT5 Ethernet. I am trying to utilize the unused Ethernet bandwidth by adding one more AP with different SSID and different channel. The result is quite surprising; if the traffic is heavy, the client connected to the main router gets roughly 15 mbps of bandwidth, and the client connected to the AP get only 5 mbps of bandwidth. What happened to the unused Ethernet bandwidth?

Here is my setting,
Main router, Airlink 101 AR525W, running FW v1.0.22
AP, Linksys WRT54G v6, running DD-WRT v24sp2

This is how I measured the bandwidth. I have got 3 computers and the router and AP in the same room. All 3 computers are running Windows XP.
Computer A is connected to the main router and the AP by 10/100Mb Ethernet.
Computer B is wirelessly connected to the main router.
Computer C is wirelessly connected to the AP.
Both computer B and C copy a large file from a shared folder on C. I calculate the bandwidth by the copying speed.

Thanks for any inputs.

Such an awesome program, that I just had to share!

While surfing my usual tech info sites I stumbled on a little program that creates a WiFi Hotspot out of any Windows 7 based wireless PC. The program is called "Connectify" and is a true WiFi Hotspot creator, not an (Ad-hoc PC to PC). Any PC using a compatible Wireless NIC can connect to this Hotspot. Takes less than 10 minutes to install and configure, and best of all it is FREE! I now have have maximum speed @54Mbps & excellent signal strength! Solved my out of range issues!

Check it out!

slo-motion.

P.S. Take note that this program will not work on XP or Vista!

Bridging 2 Routers Wirelessly

I have searched the internet and have spent countless hours to try to bridge two routers wirelessly. If anyone has any thoughts please let me know.

This is what I am trying to get done. I am living with family at the moment, and have taken up residence in the basement, There is a Verizon FiOS ActionTec MI424 Rev E on the 2nd floor. There is no ethernet cabling going to the basement nor do I have the option to install as I don't own the home or I would. I have just bought a Netgear WNDR3700 as it was supposed to be capable for bridging.

I am able to connect my wireless laptop to their network via the actiontec and have access to the internet and I get a great signal, my problem lies that I have a Internet enabled Blu-Ray player with functions I regularly used that relate to having it networked, however it is not wireless and needs to be hardwired, so therefore what I am tyring to accomplish with the two pieces of hardware at hand is to bridge my netgear to the actiontec wirelessly and then connect the hard wires to the Netgear so it would look like the following.

INTERNET --> FiOS ACTIONTEC -- (WIRELESS BRIDGE) -- NETGEAR WNDR3700 --> HARD WIRED BLURAY

Does anyone have any clue how this could be done with these routers, I have been able to connect the WND3700 as a repeater but can not get the WNDR3700 to act as a switch to it's native ethernet ports. I don't know what I am missing. From what I have reviewed some people have purchased a Netgear WNHDE111 in similar setups but I am trying to be frugal and not spend anything else I don't need to.

*** I Thank anyone for their assistance, I know some might think why bother with this setup and may have your own opinions on why not to do this, however these are my current needs that I need to complete so please only post replys with relevant thoughts or questions. ***

Random lag spikes

Ok I recently bought a new HP laptop that has an Intel BGN wireless network card. At my house I have a DIR-655 and for some reason I am getting completely random lag spikes or packet loss.(Bad enough that if I am playing a game it will drop m out of the game) It doesn't matter if I am using encryption or not. Then I can take it to my parents house on a very new Linksys N router(Not sure which one. It is one of the ones without an antenna) Anyway on this router I get no packet loss at all. Also I don't get packet loss with my other devices on the DIR-655. I am not really sure what could be causing this. Also it seems to become more stable on the DIR-655 when I operate it in g mode.(All of my other devices are g devices as well) The DIR is running I think the 1.12 version of firmware. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Oh and one more thing. It is not really a big deal, but on my parents router and my colleges g router I am still getting spikes but only like 20-40ms spikes.

Edit: Forgot to add that on my parents Linksys N router the pings are not going any lower than 3ms for some reason. It is not a range issue because the router is only 1 room away.(This goes for the DIR-655 as well)

Edit: The Linksys N router is a WRT160N.

Noob question: dsl modem w/WAP for cell phone WiFi?

I see it coming, so lemme say up front: total Noob question here.

I've got Verizon DSL via a Westell 6100 modem and have wired my home with Cat 5 ethernet. I barely get two bars on my Verizon cell phone (we're low in a geographic "bowl" of sorts, so cell tower line-of-sight is a challenge). My Curve 8330 cell phone doesn't have WiFi and I've been thinking about dropping the $250 for a Verizon network extender. I understand how that part hooks up and works.

I'm considering the Driod due out Friday which has WiFi. So I'm wondering...how does it work? Instead of investing in the Verizon network extender, how would I leverage my DSL modem (it's connected to a switch with a couple of open ports) to provide a WiFi signal that the Driod WiFi could use for phone and Internet?

Thanks in advance for being kind :)

Dropped connections with Netgear 824v3 wireless router

Hi everyone,

I'm having connectivity issues with my Netgear Rangemax 824v3 wireless router (using WPA2-PSK encryption). It's just the wireless, as if I connect any computer in the house to one of the LAN ports via ethernet, it works perfectly -- just like connecting directly to the cable modem (which is a standard-issue Motorola).

On both our Macs and PCs, which are all running recent versions of OS X/Windows (Snow Leopard/Vista), the router will disconnect us at random times (usually after 20 minutes or so of use, but may not happen for hours), and won't let us reconnect. You can see the router in the menu, but if you try to connect it times out; the only way to fix this is to unplug and replug the router. Interestingly, one of our Mac laptops has Windows XP installed and if you boot into it, you can't even connect in the first place.

When you are connected, it's generally fast (standard Cable Modem download speeds -- we can get 1.5 MB/s on a good day), but there are random, strange troubles with certain websites. Youtube, for instance, won't give us transfer speeds of any faster than 150 KB/s even if I'm watching an HD video, and it will often transfer for 3 seconds and then stop for 3 seconds. I took my Mac laptop to work (MacBook Pro unibody aluminum) and Youtube works fine. Everything works fine, as a matter of fact (the XP partition can connect to my work's wireless just fine). No stuttering, no dropped connections, etc.

This all leads me to believe it's the router's fault. The router has the latest firmware, and is correctly set to receive a dynamic IP from our cable modem provider. We set the SSID to be broadcast on channel 1 because the airwaves are crowded around here. Might that be the problem? I've changed the channel to 6 before, and the problem persists, so I thought that it wasn't the problem. Any ideas?

Thanks very much everyone!
