Broadband Slower over Wireless Router

Hello all,

I have a Dell E1505 laptop with a "Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card" running Windows XP Media Center. My router is a Linksys WRT54G and my ISP is RoadRunner. When hooked directly to my cable modem or to the router via ethernet, I get the full download speed of ~6900 Kb. But when I am connected via wireless, I can only download at about 3900 Kb. The upload is the same either way at about 480 Kb.

Windows claims I am connected at 54 Mb. Also, my other laptop (running Linux and a $15 wireless "G" card) can download from RoadRunner at the full 6900 Kb, so I'm assuming the problem is with the Dell. I downloaded the latest wireless drivers from Dell's website but that made no difference.

I can't figure out why a supposedly 54 Mb connection can't keep up with 6900 Kb. Unfortunately, my Linux laptop just died so I can't test throughput over the network from PC to PC, but I have transferred files that way in the past and while I didn't note the exact speed, it sure didn't seem like it was running at a mere 3900 Kb.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

[Tweak Test] will tweaking help my slow downloads?

all speed tests results on BBR state ISP upload data compression detected..your upload speed results may not be accurate, except for this one I just ran

Speakeasy speed test results...best of 3 to each
      Atlanta 10573/1873
      Dallas 10345/2546

3 http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2408864

4 cox cable arris telephony modem TM502g

5 n/a

6 n/a

7 XP pro

8 15/1.5 premier tier

9 n/a

10 n/a

11 n/a

now for a little history, possibly irelevant additional info and uneducated questions...
in the past few weeks I was having issues related to packet loss in the cox network, as were others in my area...
   Speakeasy
       Dallas 22563/885

that got fixed but then download speeds dropped...with slow page loading and slow file downloads
   Speakeasy
        Dallas 3484/1600
        Atlanta 6350/1575

and then poof...I get up on July 17th to this, figuring upload powerboost hit my area...
   Speakeasy
         Dallas 28513/6182
         Atlanta 24238/4982
with web pages loading really fast and files downloaded really fast...unfortunally that didn't last long

possibly irelevant info...
also ran tests to ndt servers (ndt.anl.gov and jlab4.jlab.org) today...so my uneducated questions...what does it mean "network middlebox is modifying MSS variable" which is shown as 1380 and "duplex mismatch condition detected Switch=Full Host=half"?
also tried to download test512 from ftp1.optonline.net, but got tired of waiting as it needed over an hour to download so I canceled that.

I don't know much about all this stuff but hope tweaking the RWIN will help performance and I really need some help with this.
Thanks

Slow Fios Speed on All Computers Except One

Hi all, I originally posted this on the Verizon FIOS board but it was suggested that I might have better luck on this one:

I've been grappling with a speed issue for the last couple of weeks. I'm using the Actiontec MI424WR modem/router provided by Verizon and have a 20/5 speed plan.

At home I have three computers (1 Vista, 2 XP) and one ibook.

The vista computer consistently scores around 18/4 on speed tests. The problem is that the two XP computers and the ibook max out at about 5/3.

I've disabled all firewalls in my testing, installed a fresh copy of XP SP3 on one computer, and used the tweak tool on dslreports.com and from Verizon. I have also hard reset the router several times over the course of the last two weeks. Nothing has improved the speed.

The 5/3 speed is consistent when the computers are hardwired or using wireless. I even swapped the cable connected to the vista machine with the ones connected to the XPs. The vista still gets around 18/4 while the others hover around 5/3.

We've had FIOS for about a year now, but I am unsure whether this issue has always existed or is relatively new. I recently moved back in with my parents and brought my computer, that's why I've noticed the problem.

Here is some additional information:

1. Tweak Test:

XP Comp1

2. Speed test:

VISTA Comp connected via LAN

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

[HELP] Slow Speeds, dont understand test data to fix

Well the title kind of says it all. I tried to gets some answers in this thread

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20717009-Speed-Problem-Slow-Download-Speed

However I haven't gotten any other leads on how to fix my issue. I have my test reports here

http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2406584

like my other thread says. my numbers checked out fine on the techs laptop when he checked but when I hook it up to my PC the speeds suck again. I even hooked up to my NID directly and still got the same crappy speeds.

So I am baffled as to what the cause is and how the tech managed to pull the fast speeds out of my lines when I couldn't get it even out of the NID. The tech also replaced my modem for free which did absolutely nothing for or against my speeds. I just want this issue to be fixed so I dont have to worry about it anymore. I appreciate any more advice you can give me.
