SMC 6824M - Connecting via RS-232 Cable

Hello all,

I purchased a USB to RS-232 cable to help me configure my SMC 6824M managed switch.

Terminal emulators (tried PuTTY and Tera Term) seem to connect to the switch on the provided COM port but I don't get any replies from it when I try running commands. What I would like to be able to do is set an IP address so I can connect to the web management console to be able to configure it from there (as far as I know it's not getting an IP address, certainly not from DHCP).

I'm new to all of this, so sorry if I don't make that much sense.

Any ideas?

Thank you.
