Flu Shot...good or bad??

My family (wife and 3 kids) is asking if we should get flu shots. I had the flu 2 years ago. I honestly hated it. I have never had one in my life.
Is it worth it? I am middle aged. Not a senior nor a young whipper-snapper either.
Has anyone here ever had one? Taking any and all opinions..

Google adds Googles

Never be afraid to email anyone again. Google released "Googles" to make sure you think. Before sending out a piece of vulgar 12 am email. After which the following day will be drinking coffee for. While taking pain killers ;)

I'm OK with arithmetic basic math but not huge fan of it. If you are you may enjoy the link below. Be sure to ask google to add Algebra Geometry and trigonometry calculus and above! That symbolic Math that you see in Universities. After all the harder the better when composing at 12am - 4am. :D

[Rant] OCTA and 91 Expresslanes, RIP OFF

We have a toll lane that is in the median of a major freeway here. It was privately operated for about 10 years and part of that "deal" was a non-compete that kept the local gov't from making improvements without their permission. Well, needless to say they would deny anything that would free up freeway traffic. It sucked.

So here comes the Orange County Transportation Authority with something like $130M taxpayer dollars to buy the toll road. They sold us on it claiming they would be able to finally widen the notoriously congested freeway AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, LOWER TOLLS because there wasn't a profit motive.

Over the 10 years the private toll agency owned it, the price for the 10 mile stretch went from about a buck to $4.35 one way. Within 3 years of OCTA ownership the tolls are now as high at $10 ONE WAY. Meanwhile they haven't made any significant improvements or plans for improvements to alleviate traffic on the nightmare road.

The 91 Express Lanes are now a cash cow that generates a ton of revenue and they regularly raise rates at far higher than the cost of inflation, even for middle-of-the-night periods. This is in addition to a 1/2 cent sales tax that they get, amounting to billions and billions.

Yeah, I could avoid the fee by sitting 2 hours each way in traffic but things are far worse now than ever. These agencies are supposed to be making constituents lives better, not just fleece us for $15+ a day in tolls from a very well designed and taxpayer funded scam.

[Rant] Best Buy's Advertisement

So I'm not super pissed or that mad, but this is irking me.

In this weeks Ad that gets sent out in the papers they advertise Verbatim 20-Pack DVD+R Double-Layer Discs, for $29.99 (Regular 39.99).

I looked all over the store, went to the Computer Section Guys, and they looked all over, stock room, underneath cabinets, above head storage, front lines, isles nobody could find them. They looked it up in the system and it said they had 9 available. They even looked up it in the online Best Buy catalog. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=CUD2LWH2GDONXKC4D3GFAGQ?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&id=pcat17071&type=page&st=7642562&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960
Note that that listing says 6x.

Now take a look at the picture on this page and compare the writing speeds from the image to the specs listed.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7642562&st=7642562&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1134697746286

Now I know Verbatim sometimes lists the write speed as lower with a * next to it and says it is capable of writing a higher speed.

So okay, I don't need them right away, but that's a good deal for 20 Double-Layer Verbatim Discs, considering a 15-Pack is 32 bucks at Best Buy.

I got a Raincheck for 2 packs, but when they rung up in the raincheck system, they rang up regular 39.99, so the guy wrote specifically that in the ad on 10/5 they are advertised at 29.99 and signed it.

What's up with that?

[Rant] FIOS $275 for installation!

So the sales guy says they will install FiOS for free.

I get my bill.

$275 for labor! I was never told that an extra jack for the cable and internet would cost extra. Sales guy just said, no problem to everything I said I wanted. And then at no point did the installation guy say, this is going to cost you.

And they refuse to take it off the bill.

BEWARE of FIOS, they seem to want to make money on installations and won't even tell you when things are costing extra.

[RANT] Hughesnet customer service

Just found this forum. In general HN is the worst of any company of any type that I have ever dealt with.

1. Once they have your money, you have to jump through flaming hoops to get any credits.(i.e. 2 months no service from IA6, still billed me, they can't tell me when I did or did not have service.

2. Very eager to send techs for $125 house calls.(i.e. Tech came to my house, used my phone to input new values into modem, told me there was no reason for him to come out phone tech support should have fixed it. No refund for that one.

3. Next tech visit will be to take this crap with him.

4. If you don't like the service or have a complaint, they will gladly transfer you to their cancellation dept.

WOW CEO forces employees to listen to pro-Obama speach today

Hey everyone,
Sorry if this sounds like a rant but I'm pretty pissed at what took place this morning and I have no other place in which to say this for fear of losing my job. I work for Wide Open West and this morning we had an "All Employee Meeting" at a banquet hall in Woodridge Illinois called Ashyana. If you think I am making ANY of this up, just GO ASK ANY WOW EMPLOYEE IN THE CHICAGO AREA and they can verify this is what happened.

During the meeting, the CEO and president of Wide open West Colleen Abdoulah made the following comments when talking about employee benefits.

"Did any of you watch the debates last night? Obama was right... (pause for applause and cheers) Obama was right when he said, "We've got to have somebody who is fighting for patients and making sure that you get decent, affordable health care. And that's something that he's committed to doing as president"

She went on to say a few other supporting things that were "pro-Obama" but I couldn’t hear because of all the yelling. I looked around at some of my co-workers. There was at least 2 or 3 people AT EACH TABLE standing up and cheering after she made that comment. The rest of us were in complete shock that she would do something so completely arrogant. I only heard one or two very silent "Boo's" from the audience because we would be afraid of losing our jobs if we made more of a protest.

The only thing worse then having your boss' boss make crazy political statements is your teacher when you are in school. The reason why in either case is that you just have to sit there and listen to that garbage. You have no recourse but to just sit there and take it and listen. You cannot talk back, you can't even complain after the meeting because you can quite easily lose your job.

Now I don't care if you are Democrat, Republican, or in the middle somewhere. Things like this should stay out of employee meetings. You never know who you are going to offend. Now you got half the yahoo's in the company bragging throwing things in your face like, "See, even Colleen thinks Obama's a way better choice! What do you think of THAT! HUH? Even Colleen thinks you are wrong, hahaha!" By the way, I never said to anyone at the company who I think is better... You can tell this meeting was in Illinois from the sheer number of Obama fanatics in the audience.

It has made working conditions extremely uncomfortable. Not being one of the ones who immediately stood up and cheered has put a target on my back for criticism like I'm a bad guy for not going along. Her arrogant pro-Obama speech reminds me of those annoying people you hear yelling stuff out at baseball games about how great their team is and they think everyone else around them NEEDS to hear it.

Hopefully your company's CEO or owners are not as fanatical and keeps their political poison out of the work area.

[Rant] People who say Not voting for Barack because he's Black.

I am not saying that they should vote for Barack Obama, but that is pathetic (not voting for him because he is Black).

Note: I was hearing that on the news that people are saying that to reporters (Source: On The News Hour w/Jim Lehrer on PBS).

[Rant] Ghost Hunting Shows

With Halloween Fast Approaching, what do you think of the current ghost shows? What we've got currently:

Most Haunted - The longest running one? Based in Britain, but they travel all around the world to investigate hauntings, including the US.

Ghost Hunters - Going in to 'disprove' a haunting. First few seasons they got maybe 4% Ghost Evidence and the rest was debunked. Starting around season 3, they suddenly seemed to pick up a whole hell of alot more, including dis-embodied voices heard live.

Paranormal State - Truly a farce done by local college students. Only saw about 15 minutes and couldn't watch any more than that.

Ghost Adventures - Supposedly the best of the bunch, now picked up for a series. It started with a 2 hour documentary that concluded with objects floating directly at their camera (more like shooting, they went by pretty fast) and the people running very quickly in the other direction. It's being re shown on the Travel Channel before the series starts next week..

So, what do you think about these types of shows? I used to enjoy Most Haunted until that medium of theirs started the 'possessions'. they soon got rid of him and it got a bit more enjoyable again, but it's proven that they have faked things in the past. Either that or it was done for publicity...either way their credibility is ruined..

I didn't care for Ghost Hunters at first because they didn't find anything, but soon started to enjoy it because of that. Later on, they apparently started finding more and more things which was probably intentional to get people used to the idea of the show and their 'debunking' methods of dis-proving a haunting.

The latest new one was a bit weak, though. They had no real personal experiences, but thought it was a great night....one of their investigators went out to a balcony to try and be read by a thermal cam, but the camera somehow did not pick him up....seems just plain faked. Like they are trying to make something out of an investigation that had nothing interesting on it at all..

What little I saw of Paranormal State was just abominable. Students who couldn't act, or worse, over acted. They didn't seem to take anything seriously at all..

What should I do about cigarette-butt woman?

A couple of weeks ago I was staring at my lawn and noticed an inordinate number of Marlboro Light cigarette butts all over the street and sidewalk in front of my and my neighbor's houses. So many that I collected them all and took a photo. As you can see, there are only two "different" butts. (Can somebody please count them for me?)

Now today while I was walking to the mailbox, I think I saw the culprit, whom I saw once before sitting on the curb late at night. Today she was smoking a cigarette that looks just like the butts I collected, but hey, from a distance of 10 feet I still couldn't make a positive ID. I would have talked to her but she had her phone on her ear.

Should I approach her, butt into her conversation, (punny!) and ask her to clean up after herself? Just hand her the bag of butts with a note? I wish she would do her littering in front of whatever house she is living in. It just seems really un-neighborly to turn our right-of-way into a dump.
