[Rant] DVD Digital Copy is worthless

So I have a couple of movies that came with a digital copy. Great right? Wrong. I jumped through the hoops to get the digital copy on my laptop. They worked fine. The instructions tell you to be sure to back up the file so I did this too. Well then my laptop decides to die on me. No big deal right? Everything is backed up so no real loss. Unfortunately, the digital copies of the movies wont work. They want to be registered but since the registration code has been used, they can no longer be registerd. What a worthless "feature". I've tried emailing the tech support for these different movies a few times and they assure that a response will be sent within two business days. Its a week later and I'm still waiting. Once again, the people that want to use thing legally are the ones taking it in the gut...

christmas music already, Christ!

Here's an email I sent to corporate HQ of HourEyes. But it could've been any store that's already rolled out the barrage of christmas music.

From: Don Libes
Sent: Tuesday, November 24, 2009 1:06 PM
To: Customer Service Support e-mail
Subject: houreyes music

I was in an HourEyes yesterday and found it unpleasant to hear non-stop Christmas music for the half hour I was there. I asked the staff about it and they said they don't like it either but can't do anything about it. Everyone has their reasons (too religious, too early in the season, too repetitive, too saccharin, etc.) Whatever the reasons, the result is - you have customers that don't like it, staff that don't like it; why persist on playing it?

Don LibesTo my surprise, I received a somewhat hopeful response just a few hours later...

Mr. Libes,

I contacted the General Manager of the store and sent him a copy of the email to see if there is anything that can be done. If you have any question please let me know.

Thank you,

Aldo
Customer ServiceMaybe if we all do this, we can finally rid the world of incessant and crappy holiday music that may put people in the mood for all of 10 minutes before driving them out of the store.

Now please tell me how to stop the handbell ringers in front of the grocery store. That is enough to make me avoid the store if only every other grocery store didn't have the same problem.

[Update] High airfares

In http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,23014376 , I complained that the cost of a one-day round-trip from Newark to Indianapolis was $1,000. Here's an update:

A few weeks ago, I discovered that the fare on the day after Thanksgiving only was $250. So I got my tickets, going out on Continental and returning on Delta (it worked out best schedule-wise). I also reserved a car and made reservations to go on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Grounds Tour. I was excited about making this trip I had been planning for 6 months.

If you've seen my other thread, you'll know I had a 102+ fever and a bad cough for the past week. Although I'm feeling better, I'm not well enough to make the trip, so I canceled it. Maybe I can get a $50 credit for a future trip, but I've basically lost all the money.

sigh.

[Rant] The Weather Channel

Being a self-proclaimed weather nerd, I remember growing up watching religiously Jim Cantore, John Hope, Vivian Brown, Mark Mancuso and all the other original meteorologists actually talk about the weather. In fact, I set my TV alarm to turn on the Weather Channel when it was time to get up.

I haven't watched more than 10 minutes of the Weather Channel in the past 8 years. Why? It sucks now. It is a rarity to flip to the Weather Channel and catch them in front of a map actually talking about the current weather. Their schedule is littered with meaningless shows and add-ons that I'd rather not watch...not to mention the channel has become a stronghold for the Anthropogenic Global Warming hysteria.

I miss the old Weather Channel.

[Rant] California gov and first lady

It just typical of our leaders to flaunt the law here in California. They caught Arnold parking in a red zone, now they caught Maria talking on a cell phone while driving and parking at a meter without paying. Her security guards talked the meter person out of giving her a parking ticket. All they do afterwoods is apologize for the infractions but they still continue to do it. It's the old boy's club. You scratch my back and I will scratch your back.

[Rant] Firestone

\rant

I am disgusted by Firestone. Their policies, rules, and nickle-and-dime schemes really piss me off.

I have FULL coverage on all four of my tires. I paid an a$$ load of money for the coverage and tires. When I go in to get a replacement tire, as stated clearly in black and white under my coverage, they tell my wife it will cost $119.00 whereas the coverage states free replacement within the coverage period (which it is in), less applicable state charges (which total to ~19.00).

It takes her arguing with the GM showing him multiple times the terms and conditions of our policy to bring the price down to $19.00.

This isn't the first time with Firestone either. Similar incident happened to my father in a neighboring town about one year ago, and something similar with my wife's car at a separate Firestone in New Orleans about 3 months ago.

This is garbage. I do all of my own mechanic work (spark plugs, oil, fuel filter, suspension, etc..except for major repairs like transmission replace or engine overhaul) but when it comes to tires I have to use a mechanic shop. When I get my new truck I'll sure as hell will never use Firestone again.
