[BC] Horrible ping and intermitent service.

I finally got reconnected, but I am having some hard issues.
I am using Win7Ultimate, built-in Nforce adapter, no routers and have Shaw highspeed extreme.
The hardware has worked before just fine.
Now I have an extremely high ping. On shaw's speed test it was 1179ms. http://img522.imageshack.us/i/speedtestc.png/ The line test tool here can't even ping me. And my service goes in and out like it's got a mind of it's own.
I have tried various ping fixes and shutting down some apps and services, but nothing has worked.
Anyone got ideas?
Thanks.

[BC] Should I leave Shaw Extreme for Telus Turbo

Telus is offering me $28/month for Turbo (15 Mbps) or $10/mth for regular (5 Mbps) to switch. I was told by the Telus rep (he was really nice btw) that in reality, I should only get 3 Mbps with Telus regular high speed.

Any comments on those who have experienced both Shaw and Telus in Metro Vancouver.

Slow speeds at night 15mbps package

Is there something I can say to Shaw when I call in to complain. First thing in the morning the net is great but I think my node is extremely overly saturated because at night I'm getting seriously slow speeds.

I called yesterday and they ended up trying to sell me the 25mbps package as a solution. The node can only handle 76mbps so how the hell is getting the 25mbps package going to help when 20 other kids probably have it.

[BC] No route to shaw network

For the last few days, I can't ssh to my home computer from work. The home IP address is in the 24.83.6x.xxx block. When I do a traceroute, the last hop that still responds is dx2wy-g1.vs.shawcable.net (64.59.159.218). Does anyone else have the same issue?

Shaw Bandwidth Usage Monitor......Useless??

I believe only those who have been sent a bandwidth abuse email get this tool in their online customoer care.

For those of you who have it, do you find it completely useless? I've been tracking my usage for quite a while now and it is not even in the same ballpark.
I use netlimiter to monitor traffic from my main pc, and i also have data from my router which agrees with this software.

For example, back in Sept I uploaded 180 gigs to my new online backup service and the shaw graph shows 18 gigs uploaded in sept. Almost looks like its off by a factor of ten.
I regularly do 70+ gigs a month download and it consistantly shows me in the 5-15 gigs range. What a joke.

Not that i'm complaining as the error is favoring me, but still interesting non the less.

Want a good price for Shaw internet? CANCEL YOUR SHAW!

I canceled on Friday after switching to Teksavvy (fantastic service btw), Shaw called on a Saturday (the next day), to offer me $9.95 on 7.5mbps and $19.95 on 15mbps.

I told them to shove it. But for someone else who might be more interested in speed/price value instead of a capacity/price value, I leave you with this good info.

Shaw extreme (15Mbps) much slower than Telus (6Mbps)

I have a bit of a perplexing issue. I recently switched from Telus internet to shaw extreme. My telus connection maxed out at 6Mbps due to very high attenuation (CO distance was the reason). So I switched to shaw extreme to supposedly double my attainable speed (15Mbps). Only problem is, the shaw connection is MUCH slower, i'd say almost twice the loading time for all applications, regardless of time of day. The Telus internet hasn't been shut down yet so I can still compare them. Here's where it gets frustrating, seeing how bloody slow it is, I run a speedtest from the shaw site and various 3rd party speedtests. According to them, I am running at a consistent 12-14Mbps. But for actual usage, it's brutally slow. My old 3Mbps connection would still beat this out. I've tried to rule out hardware and software issues. I have run tests on 2 computers, a laptop running vista, and a desktop running xp. I am currently using a linksys wrt54g router (which shaw support tries to blame), except that for testing purposes, i've tried tons of configurations with pretty much identical results (acceptable speed test, brutal actual speed). For both computers i've tried wireless, wired to the router, and wired directly to the modem. The signal strength is full on my wireless adapters, and switching to the telus internet results in browsing and d/l speeds almost double. I've also tried the usual tech troubleshooting routines (fresh boot on modem/computers, virus/spyware scan, check settings etc...) My settings are apparently optimal. I know that cable internet is subject to network saturation, but time of day doesn't seem to be a huge factor. Sorry for the novel, but I remain confused as to how different speedtests tell me i'm in range, but normal usage is horrible. In every category, the shaw connection is inferior (browsing, streaming vid, download legit or torrent) Anybody have input?

Shaw blocked torrents.thepiratebay.org

I can't download any of the torrents from thepiratebay.org, will always give a "Problem loading page, The connection was reset" message.

However the same torrents can be downloaded from other torrent sites. I am suspecting Shaw has blocked certain port of thepiratebay.org.

Any other shaw users have encountered the same problem ?
