[ TV] Rogers Cable TV Price Drop

I was just checking out the Rogers TV packages on the site and I noticed they had dropped the price for the VIP and Digital package (probably VIP ultimate has dropped as well but I dont remember the old price).

https://www.rogers.com/web/link/ptvBrowsePackagesFlowBegin?forwardTo=landing

VIP I believe was $64.50 before, now $57.50
Digital was $32.99 now $29.99.

They also added a new package... Digital Plus.

A price Drop? Thats just unimaginable! And btw, it doesnt indicate anywhere that this is a promo price so I am assuming its regular.

Rogers cuts 900 jobs

how nice of them,... :S

quote:Last Updated: Thursday, November 26, 2009 | 1:02 PM ET

CBC News

Rogers Communications announced Thursday it is laying off 900 employees across Canada.

Terrie Tweddle, vice-president of corporate communications at Rogers, told CBC News the job losses "represent a very small percentage of our workforce" and that "the primary focus of the job losses are actually at the executive and management levels."

Rogers said in October it was moving to streamline operations and to contend with rivals. Tweddle said the layoffs represent three per cent of the company's total workforce of 30,000 staff across the country.

She said the company would continue to hire people, especially in customer service.

The company owns Canada's largest wireless phone service, as well as Rogers Cable, numerous publications and broadcast outlets, and the Toronto Blue Jays. In September, the company announced plans to further integrate its cable and wireless businesses to better respond to its customers.

The job cuts come as Rogers faces heated competition from established rivals Bell and Telus and new entrants who plan to offer cheaper wireless airtime packages.

Kids playing HD games online and usage.

Hey gang,

I have absolutely NO clue as to how much bandwidth the kids use with these wonderfully graphic intense online games like Warhawk. Say you play online, serving as host to 20 others, for an hour a day:

Are we talking a few hundred MB's over the month?

or Gigs and Gigs counted towards the Cap just from an hour a day of online gaming? I have no idea how much BW this takes.... :hmm:

For those with Extreme Plus please post your impression of the service so far. Are you satisfied with it?

Are you able to get signal stats off the SMCD3GN, and if so, which stats, and how? A pic would be nice.

Considering the service myself.

[Wireless] Q&A With Rogers in Quebecs Market

http://www.montrealgazette.com/business/Rogers+Quebec+lieutenant/2266108/story.html

Some interesting Q&A's in the above link (I'll plop some of the Q's here):

Q: What is Rogers’ footprint in Quebec?

Q: Vidéotron and Public Mobile are coming as new competitors in Quebec. How is Rogers preparing for this?

Q: Rogers has lost exclusivity over the iPhone, which was a huge revenue source. What’s the company doing to stand out once more?

Q: Is Fido expecting to go head to head with Public Mobile, which will offer unlimited calls and text messages for $40 a month?

Q: Sounds to me like the obvious choice is Public Mobile.

Q: Why are contracts in Canada so much longer than other parts of the world? notice the rhetoric

Q: Some recent reports have said Canada has higher mobile prices than other developed countries, and this is because of low competition. notice the rhetoric

Who do you think will come out on topic in the Quebec market after all is said & done?

[Extreme Plus] Issues hosting on Xbox Live

I have Rogers extreme plus service and usually get around 15mbs down and 956kbs up. This should be plenty of upload to host COD4 games on Xbox live but I've been having issues where everyone else in the room experiences terrible lag and some people trying to join cannot get fully in. At the same time, everyone will have full green bars...

I've recently switched to the new modem, the SMC D3GN, and I hoped it would fix the problem. It didn't. The xbox is hardwired to the modem. I have this problem whether or not the main computer is also connected to the modem. Rogers has come out and rerun the line from the pole to the house and rerun the line in the house to the modem. This happens on two different xboxes. It never happened on these same xboxes with my old service provider, comcast.

Neither Rogers nor Xbox live customer support can help with this issue. Xbox live is not a supported application according to Rogers and Rogers cannot tell me if they do something to slow my upload speeds if I host a game. My NAT is open. I have placed the Xbox in a DMZ. Nothing seems to help.

This is very frustrating and I'm not sure where to go from here. I play mainly Call of Duty 4 which picks a host based on connection speeds. I often get chosen and once the game starts, half the people leave and I have to end the game and go to the lobby where everybody accuses me of having a lag switch.

Does anybody know of any issues Rogers has that would cause this? Is there anything I should be doing differently on my end? (I haven't forwarded ports as I think having the xbox in the dmz and having an open NAT should negate the need for this). Is there another service provider I should be looking at? If I can't get this fixed, I think my only option is to downgrade my service so I don't get chosen to host anymore.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

[Extreme Plus] Xbox Live

Hey guys I'm having a problem, and I'm looking for some help if possible. All my speedtests come out fine and my downloads go at a good rate, but my xbox live could be much better, mainly COD MW2, and I had the problem with COD4(Strangely I never had a hosting problem for gears, ever.). Because I have a good connection I get choosen to be the host a lot. Here's the problem, when I host, nobody can play, they all lag so bad they all lag out and I have to close the room down. This happens non-stop. My Nat is open, I am dirrectly connected to my modem, and I've just run out of ideas on what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[ TV] Rogers On Demand / TMOD

I have an Xbox 360 for a number of years and just started using after about 2 years of not. COD: Modern Warfare 2; wow. MP online totally addictive. :)

Which brings me to the on demand services from Rogers, TM and Rogers. The question being why is using these two services unbelievable slow? Accessing the menus takes ages (loading), flipping through the menus to the movies, is at a snails pace. Looking for something to watch is a nightmare. So much so, I haven't watched a movie in ages (that and there's basically crap offerings anyway). Thing is when you load up an online multiplayer game like the above, it's blazingly fast, a pleasure, yet these two movie services labour away *loading* to the point you give up.

I can't see what HD convertor I have at the moment, smallish and says "pace" on the left side next to the Rogers logo, small usb port in in the front. I do recall swapping or upgrading to it about 2 years a go from whatever was the previous one.

Where is TMOD and ROD loading from, these convertors or online? If online why is it so slow compared to the games on an xbox, if it's loading from the convertor, is there newer models or does everyone find the service painfully slow. For that matter even rogers own website has to be one of the slowest around, does anyone notice that as well. Can never understand these tech companies who don't hire or implement the best that there is in their industry. Some pages simply not functioning even on rogers online account portal, ridiculous.

Is TMOD and ROD the same case or is it the hardware and time to upgrade?
