| Is ultra and high speed grouped together now? I take it they're grouping high speed and ultra together now when you check the phone number for eligibility. So now it must be your phone number qualifies for dsl when you check for high speed or ultra. Before at least a piece ago if you checked your phone number for ultra you would be certain to get 5 meg dsl. | |

2 edits | Now you do... Unfair to say that they promise 5Mb and you only get 1.4Mb and that everyone you know has only ever reached 1.4Mb. There are plenty here on DSLR that achieve 5Mb without a problem and could handle more.
DSL is a distance sensitive technology and also sensitive to line issues. If you're to far to get the full 5Mb, then it's tough luck - you can fault Bell for not installing/being slow to install remote DSLAMs though.
Speedtest taken moments ago (with a 5200 that hasn't been rebooted in days):

| Re: Now you do... Well, what's unfair about it? I am not talking about the whole world. Only me and all the people I know. Sympatico sales promised 5M at my personal address (note, not up to 5M, but 5M, that's what they promised over the phone). And I live here, north Toronto, within 2km from whatever they call "CO". And this is what I get constantly paying 50$ for 5M:

| Sympatico SUCKS!!
sympatico never keeps it promises. tech supports are liers and i agree with you! i know a guy who's paying 45 bucks for a 5 mbps connection and he receives 1,4 mbps. What does this mean?? paying 45 bucks for a always-dropping connection and he receives 1,4 mbps??. i'm stuck with the same problem and i'll migrate to cable hsi! yes! i'll pay 35 bucks for a 10mbps connection,i'll use cogeco!
tech support never helps, some sites (like dslreports) are more complex that tech support from bell. exemple, they will not tell you how to open ports for bittorrent of something like that. bell sympatico is a bullshit that "is used just for msn or surfing". damn i have servers at home and i depend of them. when i'll with cable,i will be happy.
sympatico hsi is just a bullshit, you're right to get away from their dsl monopoly. bell never filled my needs and it's not just with dsl,it with all their services.
if you have the oportunity to use cable, get in! a sad guy...

| Re: Sympatico SUCKS!! me too! Sympatico really sucks! I paid $45/mth for highspeed service but never got past basic lite rate! After many calls to support desk, and after following their stupid rituals: turn off your pc, turn off your modem, plug directly from modem to pc, move modem to another tel outlet, etc..,etc..., they finally admitted my house was too far from their CO (my god, I'm in North York!). They sent technician to my house to fix, speed increased to 1 MB, but after the techie left, it went back to usual slow speed, then to a speed that's too ridiculous to talk about: it's just a notch better than 56K dial-up modem !! I had to write to their HO in Ottawa to complain and got back some refund, but still feel angry for being cheated! Then switched to cable. Recently, heard about good service of TekSavvy, but unfortunately that service is dependent on the Bell CO!
I just went to Bell Sympatico site, typed my phone number in, and voila:
"Your home phone line qualifies for the service(s) listed below." up to High Speed Ultra. Still try to cheat customers!

| If you look at Bells stats as a whole. Its 2.1-meg average.
The average user never see's 5-g or 4. The lucky ones do.
Bell is an over-priced dinosaur who lost the broadband race.
Look only as far as the sympatico forum to see all the complaints and lies.
So no, its not unfair at all. What this person had to say is VERY fair and accurate.
He was lied to. Plain and simple and this is a standard Bell practice, as you can read in the forum.

| Somebody piss in your cornflakes? I bet you think it was someone from India.
I've had Bell Sympatico High-Speed for almost two years, and I've rarely had anything to complain about. It's a 3Mb line, capable of going up to 5Mb. Customer service mentioned several times that they cannot guarantee 5Mb as only those closest to the switching stations get the optimum speed. Fine with me, at least they were upfront about it. My download speeds typically range from 300kbps to 500kbps. Not bad. And yes, I have spoken to customer support people who were clearly Indian (and most likely in India itself). All have been very polite and helpful.

| Re: Somebody piss in your cornflakes? Just to let you know all Bell Sympatico Call Centers are located in Canada, primarily in the Toronto and Montreal Area, and are staffed by Bell Canada employees. The reason why your tech help may sound like they are from India is because East Indians are now the four largest ethnic group in the GTA. As for your statement about out-sourcing to India, it is very similar to what I currently hear from Europeans about the outsourcing of their tech centers to Eastern Europe and Russia, with the same the racist overtones that I see on this forum.
To me the accent is irrelevant but whether they know what they are talking about, can clearly communicate to you, and can solve your problems. So far the people I have dealt have been very polite, helpful and very knowledgeable. I cant say that with other tech vendors.
As for speed I only get 240kbs due to my location which is slightly slower than Rogers, but it is more consistent speed than rogers.

i don't know where you got your info but...
i have had to call bell sympatico far too many times since june 06 (start of service). being in montreal, when i called the english tech support line, more often than not, i got a rep who resides in india. the odd occasion, i got someone in ottawa. when i use the french support line, i usually get ottawa. this is based on more than 40 calls where i have asked the rep in which city or country they are.
i have never talked to a rep from montreal or toronto.
for those of you who prefer to speak with a canadian rep, i suggest that you call the french support line and then speak english. 9 out of 10 times, you will have a bilingual rep on the line.
i am not biased. i have just found that the 1st level support are not well trained in india (sometimes the 2nd level as well). i am sure that they are on contract to sympatico and not bell employees. the whole idea when outsourcing, is to hire another company. they are then given some training and a computer support system ( i always get a delay in responding to my questions after they call up your account which i attribute to them looking up answers to basic questions or else passing you on to someone else etc.
as to line speed, when you talk to the rep, ask what profile you have. the answer is a number ( do not accept "high speed" etc). if you have 1728, this means that you are getting the basic dsl speed (1000Mkbs) which translates into 125 MKbs dl. 3000 is 3000Mkbs, the old high speed rate (375MKbs dl). profile 5056 is the new high speed rate (5000Mkbs) which gives you 625 MKbs dl. i learned this by having to ask far too many questions due to poor traing/support.

I nearly laughed out loud when I read this. Everyone who's called knows that Sympatico's customer service is outsourced. Nice try with the racist card regarding outsourcing - everyone knows why it's done. To save money. Period.
I've asked and been answered that the weather in India is beautiful; a balmy 37 degrees. Last time I checked Toronto was under a metre of snow.

| I guess you have no clue where are those reps talking from. Everytime I called bell, they were somewhere in India. Bell sympatico really sucks. They promised me 5Mbps service but I never get even 1Mbps. when they were selling me on the phone, I asked them repeatedly "is it 5Mbps with no download limit?". Every time these shitty liers say yes. And you know with rogers I always got more than 3Mbps. I am thinking to get rid of sympatico after a month. | |

| They are in India You are totally wrong. The tech support is in fact in India and yes it is very hard to understand them and communicate with them because of the accent and they have no clue what they are talking about They have a list of protocols or steps in front of them which they must follow. You obviously never called tech support. Give them a call and ask them where they are located. I have. It's not about racism. It's about getting premium support for what is suppose to be a premium service. I've been a customer for almost 3 years. When I called tech support in the beginning of my service they were very helpful and knowledgeable. I didn't call again for help until last month when I was having speed issues. Never again. After talking to them for a combined 3 hours I was back to square one. In the end I figured out the problem myself no thanks to them. This is making me reconsider bell for future service. What does that say for a company who doesn't care about giving their customers good tech support. It's all about making more money. Screw the consumer. They assume that all people who call them are idiots and they can get away with telling them it's something the customer is doing wrong. " Take it back to the store" is what they told me when they couldn't fix the problem. I could go on forever but I won't. Just don't make statements you have no clue about. Check your sources. | |

| Re: They are in India Agree on 110%. People who see racism in criticizing someone's (who's been paid to do his job) inability to speak grammatically correct English language slowly and distinctly with respect to the customers are very primitive individuals brainwashed by modern mass media propaganda. It's just stupid. I pay money to get a Professional Tech Support in clear grammatically correct English, that's all. | |

| Stop whining I know it relieves your gut the same way you gotta let it rip when you pull your pants down in the bathroom but please stop the complaining.
Cut B*ll off at the knees and bring your biz to another provider. It's as simple as that.
If you still persist letting B*ll clusterf*ck you, then you deserve it and I fully support B*ll in doing so.
