| Wha wha wha Actually the basic cable is only $9.00 a month so you shouldn't put out false reports and on the other hand if service is so bad why not just disco, It's not like they are holding a knife to your throat. It bothers me to see some of thses reviews, you complain about crappy service but yet you give them $60 a month, Not that brite are we | |

| Re: Wha wha wha Basic cable $9 a month????Not here. I may be wrong but I believe I was required to have basic plus to get Internet service. I agree with most of what the Rockville guy said. My connect speed is half of what they are getting at the start of our road (1/2 mile) and the TV picture is lousy late in the day. They send out a guy with a meter and he says he'll have to call Tech to up the amp. That never happens. I call again and they send a guy with a meter...... | |

| $9 a month? You have to be kidding me. I'm paying $99 and change a month for my High Speed with Basic Cable Plus, it just went up from $96 and change last month. The person stated the Comcast is the monopoly in his/her area, which is why he/she doesn't disconnect. And just FYI, bright isn't spelled brite in most places...
I agree with the other person, Comcast is good when it's up and horrible to get any help from when it's down. I tend to wait at least half an hour before I get anyone and talking with their first level tech support is incredibly frustrating as my profession is dealing with PC's and networking. I can understand going throught basics like "did you check the connectings", "Is it powered on", etc but when I was told that my TCP/IP networking protocol wasn't properly bound to my cable modem...I'd be surprised to find out that the modem needed to be bound since I'm running an RJ-45 connection and not USB. I've been giving serious thought about going with Verizon DSL (supposedly my area has that) and so far the only reason I haven't is that it's easier to pay one bill and Comcast is still slightly faster then DSL where I am.

| Comcast Technical Incompetence I've had pretty good luck with Comcast cable internet service up till now. but for the last two or three months the service goes down on an intermittent basis without ostensible cause.
I've had multiple service calls and visits by technicians. Yet not until last night did a tech on the phone walk me thru shutting down absolutely everything and lighting things back up in certain order -- pulling all the wires and putting them back in -- which restored the connection.
But he couldn't explain why this worked or what causes the problem in the first place. "It is an RF problem" he says -- and that's all he knows.
The TV service is even worse and the RF problems are just as real and bad there, too.
One can speculate about the reasons for the weakness of signal on the TV side of the house (remedied finally by a Comcast installed powered amplifier much bigger than the one I had found at Radio Shack).
One can speculate about why the internet cable modem needs to be reset so often -- what is altering the default settings?? Lightning storms are a possible cause, but there were none on many nights when the service went down.
Why shouldn't these problems have existed in all the time I enjoyed rock solid, never down Internet service over the last couple of years?
What has changed?
Comcast has no clue or doesn't wish to share what it does know.
I find the claim that Verizon's build out to add its fiber optic option to my neighborhood has caused service interruptions of the sort I'm experiencing disingenuous at best: That's corporate speak. The tech I spoke to contradicted that one flatly, since I wasn't suffering from a cut wire, but rather "an RF problem." The service is not malfunctioning just two doors down from me.
I was told by Comcast that is because my neighbors and I are using "different nodes" even though we may have the same wire coming down the street.
Now, I agree this isn't rocket science: but I'll tell you this much, I'm beginning to think we're sliding into a third-world mentality here.
I was on the point of ditching Comcast altogether and going with Verizon -- but I fear things will just go from bad to worse. I know nothing of Verizon's fiber optic internet service and would want to see some sort of track record before I leap.
But lest folks have the impression Comcast provides decent service in Montgomery county, Maryland -- think again.
