Vonage Phone number portability

You are lucky to have your phone number ported successfully in such a short time.
I subscribed to Vonage the VOIP provider this September. I followed their process to submit the request to port my POTS phone number to the broadband phone service. When I sign up with Vonage, Vonage rep told me the transfer will be completed in 22 business day at the most. I completed all requirement for the transfer on September 3. 22 business day(October 5) passed quickly and my POTS phone number was not ported yet. So I called Vonage customer support on October 7. The rep opened a ticket to the phone carrier to request status, and emailed me to state that I will be informed of the date of transfer. I waited and waited. I did not receive any email or phone call. I called in again October 26. The rep told me the ticket was closed even though my phone number was not ported yet. I asked the rep to reopen the ticket. The rep told me to wait 72 hours for an update. Today (October 29) I got an email more or less same as the last one. It stated to contact me immediately once a transfer date is obtained. So I called the Vonage Customer support again. The rep said no status is available. I asked to speak to his supervisor or management as it has been 40 business days since the transfer was requested. He put me on hold for several minutes and then told me no supervisor or management is available now. He took my phone number and said management will call me back. It is five hours since I talked to the rep, no return call from Vonage yet. I feel very bad cause Vonage gave me the run-around, and my POTS phone bill is much higher than the Vonage bill. I also pay Phone number portability fee for years. But when I need that service, it does not work. I wonder which phone carrier is holding it up.
To make thing worse, my POTS carrier has merged with another phone carrier. I got an notice 2 days ago that my current service plan will not be available by 11/15. The new plan is 2 times more expensive than my current one. I will be forced to pay for the high price if Vonage keep giving me the run-around and empty promise. By then I will have to choose to keep one phone carrier.

Re: Vonage Phone number portability

Vonage is absolutely terrible! I signed up in July 2004. Sent in my LOA on July 7th - with local poratability selected. My number was never transfered. Contacted them numerous times, never responded to my electronic requests and always told me that they were still waiting for my number to port (when I would call). Horrible hold times. Finally, at the end of September (more than 60 days since I signed up), I called again and inquired as to status. At that point they told me my number should have ported on September 8th. My request as to WHY it was not ported and why the people I talked to between then and now did not know this went unanswered.

Vonage left me no choice but to cancel my account. They charged me $41.19 cancellation and did not even refund my money for the device which they confirmed they received. This was THEIR failure to provide per contract and they still charged me.

Concidering the amount of hold time I endured, all my dilligent follow up with them, plus the fees they did not refund, I lost over $300.

I highly recommend that if you are still experiencing problems with Vonage, you cancel, demand your money back, and if necessary, file a complaint with the FCC.

Control by phone number for Charlotte, NC area

Where you given a control by phone number (a local 7 digit number that you can dial to access voice mail, etc)when you signed up for service? I have asked for this from AT&T for when I am in the Charlotte area but they claim that it doesn't exist. I find it hard to believe that a market as large as Charlotte would not have this access.
Thanks.
