You can always get more speed...

Don't forget you can always upgrade to the Pro package which is 3meg down and 384 up soon to be 512 up for $36.99.

Re: You can always get more speed...

What do you mean "you can always upgrade?" Isn't it at the pleasure of the telco? SBC (or did they subcontract to Covad?) raised our download speed to 310-320kbps when Comcast started advertising they might begin to compete, but the upload speed has stayed at 65-105kbps. At least they stopped advertising it was at least 3 times the speed of dial-up.

Re: You can always get more speed...

Just what I said you can upgrade. Off course you have to be within X distance for Y package. If you are within distance you can upgrade.

I've thought about that, but given that I'm not impacted by the difference in speed between DSL and cable, I don't see how I'd benefit all that much by the increase in speed. I'm not doing a lot of big downloads and rarely share the connection with more than 1 computer. The extra speed is tempting, though...

I'm also concerned that I'll only see a small increase in speed over what I've got today. I'm at 1.3mb now and the bottom limit of the Pro package is 1.5mb. If I ended up with 2.5-3.0, it would be a nice upgrade, but if I got 1.5-2.0, I'd be paying $10/mth for an increase I likely wouldn't notice.

Re: You can always get more speed...

Well true but most people that have been able to upgrade to Pro are getting 3008 sync and around 2500 after speed tests.

If it doesn't work on your line you could downgrade back to your current package. If you aren't really noticing a difference then I wouldn't worry about it.

You can always post in SBC Direct forum to have one of the EPC folks see if you are eligible for the upgrade. That way at least it's clearer to you if you can or can't.

Hmm... question. I have SBC Yahoo! DSL and I too pay $26 I believe... either $26 or $29. Anyhow, I was told I only have the basic package, containing speeds of 192kbs - 384kbs and upload speeds of 128kbs. I am getting download speeds around 320kbs and upload speeds around 320kbs. I don't understand. I seen on websites that they have the 384kbs - 1.5mbs and uploads of 128kbs, package for $26. I don't understand why I am paying the same price and getting slower spees.

Re: You can always get more speed...

You should post in SBC Direct forum to see if you can get 1.5 speeds. More then likely you can but here are 2 scenarios

1) You are too far from the CO to get 1.5 speeds

or

2) Who ever took your order just put you on the 384 plan and not the 1.5.

Go here and ask about upgrading »/forum/sbcdirect just hit the new topic button. Give it 1-2 business days for a response. You won't be able to look at other threads. Just think of Direct forum as a global IM system for the SBC Techs, they can read all the threads and no one else.
