I appreciate it, but this is a Chinese Army bureaucracy issue, rather than a technical one-and two frustrating days and many hours spent on the phone trying to correct a problem that never should have arisen. I got SBC to take the "DSL Indicator" off my number this morning and switched to another provider-still a SBC provided line, of course, but hopefully with a more responsive customer service staff.

Instead of just ranting and raving -- I know you're frustrated -- give these guys a chance on here. They really CAN help, and are happy to do so. IM him with your information, and let he see what he can do. Really, these guys are the BEST!!!!

Ask the guys in the Ameritech forum. They will all tell you that a little interaction with Beach Boy and you will have the same service the other guys will sell you at a much cheaper price. Plus once it is up you can avoid phone support all together with the techs at the Ameritech forum. I know up to now you've experienced nothing but nightmares but Beach Boy can end that for you.

I am just going to concur with these 2 other posters. The techs in the Ameritech DSL forums really can cut through the red tape. Simply give them a chance, you would not believe how many people that have helped with problems like yours, or even worse problems.

In all fairness, it isn't a support issue-I really never had to use support for anything-I gave them a ding because it was a support rep that told us our number was "DSL ineligible."

They were great to work with years ago-I feel like an old friend turned on me. I am just bewildered by the incompetence.
