| Welcome to charter Hey Dasneaky,
You can use mail.charter.net to send from outside the network. It is the only way right now, and be aware that when you compose an email on the site you have a time limit of 15 minutes before the site automatically logs you out. (IE you create an email and it takes 16 minutes, you hit send and it says you are logged out, you lost that email ).
The reason for this is to try and keep down the relay spam. ISPs like earthlink and AOL, whom have some restrictions, can still be used as relay servers for spammers.
P.S. I used to be a tech over at SBC, then came over here. I was known as Dsltechy. Glad to see you switched to the "light" .

| Re: outside the network? I meant using Charter's mail servers to relay email while off of their network. I carry my laptop with me and I can't use Outlook to send emails through Charter's servers when not on their network. This isn't such a big problem, more of an annoyance. I over came this problem with SBC by having static IP's and running my own server. In time, I may upgrade my Charter account so I can run servers again, but not too worried about it ATT. -- If first you don't succeed, try sucking another seed! | |

1 edit | They [Charter] finally got it right
After a month of slow speeds and inexperienced employees on the telephone; three technicians to the house with three different ideas about what was wrong, I finally got someone (after about 20 phone calls) that identified the problem and actually fixed it. No, it wasn't MY computer and/or router/firewall, it was one of THEIR routers. My philosophy - keep calling every day until you get someone who knows what they are doing and makes it work the way it is supposed to. For a steep price of $69.99/mo. I'm getting a nice consistent 10Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up. This is a bit pricey, but they wouldn't budge on the price unless I got television service too in some sort of half-assed promo in which the price goes above $100/mo. after the promo period is up. Charter -- quit raping your customer's wallets. SBC [now AT&T/Yahoo DSL]? Forget it. You'll be lucky to get 1 Meg down, [depending on your location] and the PPPOE is a nightmare to configure for maximum speed, not to mention that it's a b**ch to get rid of all The Yahoo bahoo and browse the web YOUR way.
