In most InsightBB areas, if you don't have digital cable, you pay $10 more per month for InsightBB than if you do. (You pay the extra $10 even if you have analog cable.) Cable TV isn't a requirement, though. Whoever told you this was misinformed.
If you don't want digital cable, cancel it (or switch to analog cable) and save yourself some money. If you do cancel, be sure to tell whoever you talk to at Insight, that you do not want your InsightBB connection cancelled. That way, they won't simply disconnect your physical cable line, taking your InsightBB connection with it.
