| Correct me if I am wrong but doesnt some parts of RoadRunner cap the upload at 128? Maybe when the network had less people on it they didnt have that cap and now they do.
Have you checked your caps to see what they are?
as for the "50 times fast than dailup", you need to read carefully, it says "upto 50 times faster than dailup*" .. so they actually aren't promising you anything. And from what you said, your download is above 50 times faster.
No, I'm not a RR employee and I don't have RR although I wish I still did.. you should try my cable. I get 50k down and 20k up max for $47/month. -- 2002-06-11 15:30:39 EST: 206 / 33 --- my isp says there is no problem. 512/256 plan.

@rr.com | You have to know what your downloading from. If your downloading from a t1 connection with 5000 other people obveously your download speed will be low because of the bandwith being shared but if you download from t1 by yourself 257kbps.

| i have to admit their service is shitty because when i ask them questions before i signed up they had no idea wtf i was talking about its like they had piece of paper and read me all the specs of rr cable modem and when i asked how many people are in a hub currently they're like no idea. | |

| What does he expect from the tech people. The only helpful tech person I have ever talked to was at smc. RR people are morons. The only thing they can tell is wether or not the person before them messed up your multiple ips, so that they go can mess it up again (4 different times). RR here has never been slow. Down once in a while maybe. It seems as though he expect RR-RR transfers to be faster even though the same restrictions on bandwidth still apply. 384k is significantly slower than what they used to give, but it sure beats 128k. ANd I'm pretty sure they don't care that much if the people who have free access (schools) are having poor service. | |

| I too had a Motorola WaveSurfer modem. Last week Time Warner of Northeastern Ohio upgraded their network and alas, the modem didn't work anymore. For about a week before the upgrade, my speeds were phenomenal, over 5,000 kbps down and over 400 kbps up. This was not normal at all, I have been averaging about 2,000 kbps down and ONLY 100 kbps up.
So after many phone calls, online chat sessions with Road Runner (via 56K modem), etc... one intelligent person at Time Warner in Canton, OH suggested I get a replacement modem (as everyone else told me that the problem was NOT with the cable modem). I went to Time Warner's office on Rt 59 in Franklin (next to Kent, OH) and I was treated impeccably by a lady named Dee. I explained my problem to her and she immediately told me that the problem was with the modem, that she recommends a Toshiba cable modem due to superior reliability and if I had ANY questions she provided a technical expert's name and number.
Therefore what I see from Time Warner in the Akron area is a lack of a standard knowledge base, whereby there is a very wide disparity of knowledge among service representatives (non technical folks here). I sense there is an urgent need to try to resolve the problem (there is nothing wrong with this and it is quite commendable) but there is a lack of accurate knowledge and resources to correctly do so.
I'd suggest for the user to get that Toshiba 1100 modem, go to broadbandreports.com , download and install Dr. TCP and use their tweaking tools to improve the connection. In short, (I'm using Windows 2000) I use a MTU of 1500, a MSS of 1460, TTL of 128 and a TCP Receive value of 64240 to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the connection. | Re: User Has Legit Concerns I live in the San Fernando Valley, in Southern California. I too had the problems of a similar nature, and have roadrunner as well. I got a new nic, all new cables, a new cable modem (RCA #DCM305), still a problem. A tech from time warner came out and replaced the hard line to the pole, and it worked great for a short while. I have been getting bad connection rates recently and am finally fed up with Time Warner. Below is my latest test:
2002-12-18 23:56:49 EST: 2056 / 18 Your download speed : 2056070 bps, or 2056 kbps. A 250.9 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 18831 bps, or 18 kbps. Your upstream result was very slow! .. not good Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
I am officially fed up with Time Warner cable. Anyone have any suggestions of a fast Southern California DSL company, that you have had no problems with? I thank you all for your input in advance

| i've had no rr connectivity or cable link for 8 days now, Tech support inspected my cable lines,connection and modem which i have done myself as well with resulting in the conclusion of server problems. =\ it took 4 days for tech support so in my own opinion the tw-cny area of rr has a bad tech support | |

@cable.rogers
| get a business account since you WANT to check e-mail from your customers at e-bay or half.com. There is nothing wrong with RR having you offline so that other subscribers can use the bandwidth they sign up for! since when you are using this for your business, you are not doing other subscribers a favour...my suggestion, go DSL or dialup and rot in that hell forever! p | |
