| Excuse me...
Why SHOULDN'T people expect DSL to be like picking up a phone and hearing a dial tone? THAT'S THE WAY SOUTHWESTERN BELL MARKETS AND ADVERTISES IT. They tell us it's just another feature on your phone line. They advertise DSL like you can order it same as caller-id, call-notes, call-waiting and so on. They market it like it is no more hassle to set up than changing a long distance provider. People expect the same hassle-free, fast service and setup for DSL that they get for any other phone feature because that's the expectation Southwestern Bell presents.

| Re: Excuse me... Unfortunately not only SBC is advertising this way, but EVERY telco and DSL agent does the same thing. All you have to do is look at the main page of DSLR to see that not everyone gets it 100% right. Verizon scores with one customer, pisses off another--same with any other. I don't agree with it, but that's just the way marketing seems to work in any large company I've ever worked for. They rush to sell without seeing the big picture...again, I don't agree. | |
| | Anon | SWBell not Internet Bell
My service sucks the speed ranges from 97 to 311 Kbps I thought SWB guarantee 384 so whats up with the slow speed. I am not going to pay $64.95 for a service that is this slow and drops sink when I can go to 56k and get better service. I called the ASI group at SWBell and was told that SWB had MIT people working for them and they are the best HA HA. I have a question if theyre so good then why is my service so bad when I live with in distance of the CO? I know one thing if my service dont get better soon Im going to disconnect and go back to a 56K dialup. This is the worst service I have ever had as far as DSL goes and they cannot even get my billing right and they call them selves good give me a break. I could train a monkey to provide phone service and Internet service but the SWBell cannot even train their people how to transfer a call without hanging up on the customer. I say everyone disconnect and let them eat it for a while because they have forgot that WE the customer pay the bills not them. When you call in for help they act like we are problem and they dont have the time to fix it. I SAY EVERYONE DISCONNECT AND LET THE PHONE COMPANYS DIE TO THE POINT THAT THEY DROP THE PRICES AND QUIT OVER CHARGING US. Oh and by the way all of phone company people dont even think that I dont have a clue as I have a degree in telecommunications and I also write programs.

| your employee disclaimer was not necessary
It is unfortunate that lay customers do not have the advantage of helping SWB pull their heads out of their as*ses. If we could, perhaps we wouldn't have to wait 3 - 4 months for installation, mixed messages from tech support, and put up with billing problems for extremely (this is an understatement) LAME connectivity. I'm sorry I agree...you must indeed have to work there to get anything accomplished.
I have been a customer for about 14 months. I finally started keeping a log for my connectivity. So far, for 2 months, my service is down 17.45% of the time, and I experience an average of 2.2 disconnections per session (every time I sit down to use it). Perhaps if I were a SWB employee, I would know who's as*s to kick.
Contrary to every instinct I have, I actually called today to inquire about getting some static IPs. (actually I called to get some credit for paying diligently for this crap). I really think the pppoE authentication service is a very bad thing. Then, coupled with the modem, it is a connection nightmare. I asked them for a trial account. NO, don't have trial accounts AND there's a $100 setup fee for the static IPs. If I were a SWB employee, maybe I could help show them how they just lost another customer.

| I could be faster.... delivery that is Technically speaking... JUST TECHINICALLY! a DSL line could be completed in three days or less. The problem lies in communication between telco, provider, clec, and whatnot and is purely burocracy.
The technique of DSL has been around long enough for a "smooth" installation, but its just all the different companies that have their own systems, their own way of handling things, which causes for one big phat mess.
I called Time Warner on saturday as we were moving in on sunday. A guy came by on monday that installed digital cable AND internet. (Road Runner) It works at 2 Mbit/s too so why would I go through the tedious process of connecting DSL.

@swbell.ne | SBC can only communicate with ASI by means of Snail Mail (US Postal) by order of the Fed Govt.

| Try the midwest I have had dsl for a year and a half with no problems and very respectable speeds, 112k up and 1.35 to 1.4meg down. I called to upgrade to the Deluxe package, 256k up and 768 to 1.5 meg down, and was informed that because I was more than 9000 feet (11,275) from the teleco I could not get upgrade, Now here is the kicker, NO ONE THERE CAN EXPLAIN WHERE THE 9000 FEET CAME FROM. I mean with the speeds I have now this upgrade could only help me, but then again what else should I have expected from the Chicken S*%t SBC! | |

| Re: Try the midwest DSL is expensive compared to cable, they say dedicated line, my butt, more like marketing scam. Broadband just getting slower and slower as more people migrate to it. I had DSL for 1.5 years and I say the speed was limited by how faster others can upload stuff to me rather then how fast I can send to them because you see with everyone being so heavily capped, it makes broadband not so hot even if you have a T1. My average speed downloading from others was like 20-40k from a total of 6 people. I never utilized my max of 1.5mbit 99 percent of the time because of the stupid upload cap which is why broadband isn't exactly broadband, more like ISDN on steriod? | |
